1. Safety Information

Operating a chainsaw can be hazardous. Always prioritize safety to prevent serious injury. Read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before using the WTHW WH5803 chainsaw.

1.1 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

3. Setup and Assembly

Proper assembly and preparation are crucial for safe and efficient operation.

3.1 Guide Bar and Chain Installation

1. Ensure the engine is off and the chain brake is disengaged.
2. Remove the chain cover by loosening the two nuts.
3. Place the chain around the clutch drum, ensuring the cutting edges face forward on the top of the guide bar.
4. Fit the guide bar over the studs and align the chain with the groove in the guide bar.
5. Replace the chain cover, ensuring the chain tensioning pin engages with the hole in the guide bar. Hand-tighten the nuts.

3.2 Fuel and Oil Filling

• Fuel: Mix unleaded gasoline with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at the ratio specified in the specifications section. Fill the fuel tank (550 ml capacity) carefully, avoiding spills.
• Chain Oil: Fill the chain oil tank (260 ml capacity) with appropriate bar and chain lubricant. This chainsaw features an automatic chain oiler.
• Always ensure caps are securely tightened after filling.

3.3 Chain Tensioning

• With the chain cover nuts slightly loose, use the included scrench to adjust the chain tensioning screw.
• The chain is correctly tensioned when it can be pulled freely around the guide bar by hand, but the drive links are still seated in the guide bar groove. There should be no excessive slack.
• Once tensioned, fully tighten the chain cover nuts.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your WTHW WH5803 chainsaw.

4.1 Starting the Engine (Quick-Start Recoil)

1. Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
2. Engage the chain brake by pushing the brake handle forward.
3. Set the choke to the 'closed' position (for cold starts).
4. Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
5. Pull the starter handle firmly and smoothly until the engine fires (usually 1-3 pulls).
6. Once the engine fires, immediately push the choke to the 'open' position.
7. Pull the starter handle again until the engine runs smoothly.
8. Disengage the chain brake before cutting.

4.2 Cutting Techniques

• Always maintain a firm grip with both hands on the chainsaw handles.
• Stand with your feet apart for good balance.
• Avoid cutting with the tip of the guide bar to prevent kickback.
• Plan your cuts to ensure the wood falls safely and does not trap the guide bar.
• Allow the chainsaw to reach full speed before beginning a cut.

4.3 Quick-Switch Bar System

The WTHW WH5803 allows for quick interchangeability between the 18-inch and 20-inch guide bars. To switch bars, follow the guide bar and chain installation steps (Section 3.1), ensuring you use the corresponding chain for the chosen guide bar.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.

5.1 Chain Sharpening

• A sharp chain is essential for efficient and safe cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when dull.
• Refer to the chain specifications (Pitch: 0.325P, Gauge: 0.058G) for correct file size and angle.

5.2 Air Filter Cleaning

• The centrifugal air filter should be cleaned after every 5-10 hours of operation, or more frequently in dusty conditions.
• Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter element, and clean it with warm soapy water or compressed air. Ensure it is completely dry before reinstallation.

5.3 Automatic Chain Oiler Check

• Regularly check the chain oil level and refill as needed.
• Ensure the automatic oiler is functioning by observing oil spray from the chain tip when the engine is running at speed.

5.4 Spark Plug Inspection

• Inspect the spark plug periodically for wear or carbon buildup. Clean or replace as necessary to ensure reliable starting and engine performance.
