  • Input Terminals (DC+, DC-): For connecting to the DC power lines.
  • Indicator Window: Displays the operational status (Green for normal, Red for fault).
  • Ground Wire End: Connection point for the protective earth ground.
  • Removable Cartridge: The red module containing the surge protection components, designed for easy replacement.

3.2 Visual Warning Module

The SPD incorporates a visual indicator to provide immediate feedback on its operational status.

5. Setup and Installation

IMPORTANT: Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in compliance with all applicable electrical codes and standards.

  1. Power Disconnection: Before beginning any installation, ensure that the main power supply to the system is completely disconnected and locked out to prevent accidental re-energization.
  2. Mounting: The SPD is designed for 35mm DIN rail mounting. Snap the device securely onto the DIN rail within your electrical panel.
  3. Wiring Connections:
    • Connect the DC+ line from your system to the DC+ terminal of the SPD.
    • Connect the DC- line from your system to the DC- terminal of the SPD.
    • Connect the ground wire from your system's protective earth to the ground wire end terminal of the SPD. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
  4. Verification: Double-check all wiring connections for correctness and tightness. Ensure no loose wires are present.
  5. Power Restoration: Once installation is complete and verified, restore power to the system. Observe the indicator window on the SPD. It should display a green color, indicating normal operation.

6. Operating Instructions

The QLWAHK SPD operates automatically to protect your system from surges. User interaction is primarily limited to monitoring the status indicator.

  • Normal Operation: When the indicator window displays GREEN, the SPD is functioning correctly and actively protecting your electrical system from transient overvoltages.
  • Fault Condition: If the indicator window displays RED, it signifies that the SPD has absorbed a significant surge and its protective elements are no longer functional. In this state, the device requires immediate attention and replacement to restore surge protection.

7. Maintenance

The QLWAHK SPD is designed for minimal maintenance. Regular inspection of the indicator window is the primary maintenance task.

  • Periodic Inspection: Periodically check the indicator window on the SPD. The frequency of inspection should be determined by the criticality of the protected system and the likelihood of surge events in your area.
  • Replacement of Faulty Module: If the indicator window turns RED, the protective cartridge has failed and needs to be replaced. Disconnect power to the system, carefully remove the faulty red cartridge from its white base, and insert a new, compatible QLWAHK SPD cartridge. Restore power and verify the new cartridge shows a GREEN indicator. If the entire device (base and cartridge) is damaged, the complete unit must be replaced.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Indicator is REDSPD has absorbed a surge and is no longer functional.Disconnect power, replace the faulty red protective cartridge or the entire SPD unit. Restore power and verify the new unit shows GREEN.
Indicator does not light up (no color)No power to the SPD or internal fault.Verify power supply to the SPD. Check wiring connections. If power is present and wiring is correct, the SPD may be faulty and requires replacement.
Frequent RED indicatorSystem is experiencing frequent or severe surges.Consult a qualified electrician to assess the electrical system and identify the source of surges. Additional surge protection or system improvements may be necessary.
