Introduction
The Pious 5-in-1 Digital Water Quality Tester is a versatile instrument designed for accurate measurement of pH, Salinity, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and Temperature in various liquid samples. This device features automatic temperature compensation (ATC) to ensure precise readings across a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C. It is suitable for monitoring water quality in applications such as drinking water, swimming pools, hydroponics, aquariums, and more.
This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, maintenance, and calibration of your Pious 5-in-1 tester.
Product Features
- Multi-Parameter Measurement: Measures pH, Salinity, EC, TDS, and Temperature.
- Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): Ensures accurate readings between 0°C and 60°C.
- Backlight Function: Enables use in low-light conditions. The backlight automatically turns off after 30 seconds of inactivity. Press any key to reactivate.
- Data Hold Function: The HOLD/TEMP button can lock the current reading for easy recording.
- Easy Calibration: Supports 3-point automatic calibration for pH (4.01, 6.86, 9.18). Calibration packets are included.
- Wide Application: Ideal for pools, saltwater pools, hot tubs, spas, aquariums, aquaculture, hydroponics, drinking water, and tap water.
Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the tester and any accessories from the packaging.
- Battery Installation: The device comes with pre-installed alkaline batteries (3 x LR44). If replacement is needed, ensure correct polarity.
- Initial Rinse: Before first use, gently rinse the electrode with distilled or deionized water and blot dry with a clean, soft cloth.
- Power On: Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the device.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off
Press the ON/OFF button to turn the tester on or off.
2. Mode Switching (pH, Salinity, EC, TDS)
Press the MODE/CAL button to cycle through the measurement modes: pH, Salinity (ppm/ppt), EC (µS/cm/mS/cm), and TDS (ppm/ppt). The current mode will be displayed on the screen.
3. Temperature Unit Switching (°C/°F)
Long press the HOLD/TEMP button to switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) temperature units.
4. Data Hold Function
While taking a measurement, briefly press the HOLD/TEMP button to lock the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold and resume live readings.
5. Backlight Control
The backlight automatically activates when the device is turned on and will turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery. Press any button to reactivate the backlight.
6. Calibration
The device is factory-calibrated for immediate use. However, regular calibration is recommended for optimal accuracy, especially for pH measurements.
- Prepare the pH buffer solutions (4.01, 6.86, 9.18). Calibration packets are provided.
- Turn on the tester and switch to pH mode.
- Immerse the electrode into the 6.86 pH buffer solution.
- Long press the MODE/CAL button until "CAL" appears on the screen. The device will automatically recognize the buffer solution and calibrate.
- Once the reading stabilizes and the calibration is complete, rinse the electrode with distilled water.
- Repeat the process for pH 4.01 and pH 9.18 buffer solutions.
For Salinity, EC, and TDS, refer to the specific calibration instructions if provided with your calibration solutions, as these may vary.
7. Taking a Measurement
- Ensure the tester is clean and calibrated.
- Immerse the electrode into the sample liquid up to the immersion line.
- Gently stir the tester to remove air bubbles and allow the reading to stabilize.
- Read the value displayed on the screen.
- After measurement, rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled water and cap it.
Applications
The Pious 5-in-1 Digital Water Quality Tester is suitable for a wide range of applications:
Swimming Pools / Hot Tubs: Maintain optimal pH (7.2-7.8) and ideal salt content (2700-3400 PPM) for healthy water conditions.
Seawater Fish Tanks / Aquariums: Monitor temperature, salinity, and TDS to ensure optimal conditions for marine life.
Hydroponic Cultivation: Measure pH and EC to manage nutrient solutions for plant growth in greenhouses and DWC systems.
Food Preparation: Observe and adjust pH values for food and beverages like beer and juices.
Other uses include testing drinking water, tap water, and water from reverse osmosis systems.
Maintenance
- Electrode Cleaning: Always rinse the electrode with distilled or deionized water after each use to prevent contamination and ensure accurate readings.
- Storage: Store the tester with the protective cap on. For pH electrodes, it is recommended to keep the electrode tip moist with a storage solution or pH 4.0 buffer solution. Do not store dry.
- Battery Replacement: When the display dims or the device fails to power on, replace the three LR44 alkaline batteries. Ensure correct polarity during installation.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals on the device or electrode.
Troubleshooting
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure the electrode is clean.
- Recalibrate the device, especially for pH measurements.
- Check battery level and replace if low.
- Ensure the sample temperature is within the operating range (0°C to 60°C).
- Device Not Turning On:
- Check if batteries are correctly installed.
- Replace batteries with new LR44 alkaline batteries.
- Slow Response:
- Clean the electrode thoroughly.
- Ensure the electrode is properly hydrated (not stored dry).
