5. Setup and Battery Installation

5.1 Main Unit Battery

The main unit is powered by a built-in Polymer Lithium Battery (1250mAh). It can be charged via the DC5V port using a standard USB power adapter (not included).

  1. Locate the DC5V charging port on the side of the main unit.
  2. Connect a compatible USB charging cable to the port and a power source.
  3. The battery indicator on the LCD will show charging status.

5.2 Receiver Battery Installation

The receiver (wire tracker) uses a 6F22 Square Stacked Battery (500mAh), which is included.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the receiver.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert the 6F22 battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Cable Testing (Length & Scan)

This function allows you to measure cable length and identify wiring faults (e.g., open, short, cross, split pairs).

  1. Turn on the main unit.
  2. Connect one end of the network cable to be tested to the LENGTH port on the main unit. For full testing, connect the other end to the MAIN port or a remote identifier (not included, but implied by the "ID" mode).
  3. Press the MODE button until "LENGTH" or "SCAN" mode is selected on the LCD.
  4. The display will show the cable length in meters and indicate any wiring issues.

6.2 Line Finding (Wire Tracking)

Use the receiver to trace cables and locate specific wires within a bundle or wall.

  1. Connect the cable to be traced to the MAIN port of the main unit using an appropriate connection cable (RJ45, RJ11, or alligator clips).
  2. Turn on the main unit and select a tracking mode (e.g., "SCAN").
  3. Turn on the receiver and select the desired tracking mode (Blue Digital or Red Analog) using the mode dial.
  4. Move the receiver's probe along the suspected cable path. The receiver will emit an audible tone and/or illuminate LEDs to indicate the presence of the signal.
  5. The integrated flashlight on the receiver can be used to illuminate dark areas.

The ET616 main unit also functions as a digital multimeter (DMM) for various electrical measurements.

  1. Connect the red and black test leads to the appropriate ports on the main unit.
  2. Press the MODE button to cycle through multimeter functions such as:
    • Continuity: Checks for an unbroken electrical path.
    • Temperature: Measures ambient or contact temperature (requires specific probe, not always included).
    • NCV (Non-Contact Voltage): Detects AC voltage without direct contact.
    • Current: Measures electrical current (requires specific connection method, often in series).
    • Voltage (V): Measures AC/DC voltage.
    • Resistance (Ω): Measures electrical resistance.
  3. Follow standard multimeter practices for each measurement type.
