5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
The ETCR6540 requires 2 x 7# Alkaline batteries (not included). To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the meter is powered off.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
- Insert two 7# Alkaline batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.
A low battery indicator will appear on the display when batteries need replacement.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power On/Off
Press the power button to turn the meter on. The meter will automatically shut down after 5 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
6.2 AC Current Measurement (Clamp Function)
This function is ideal for detecting leakage currents in electrical systems without breaking the circuit.
- Select the AC current measurement mode.
- Open the clamp jaws by pressing the trigger.
- Place the clamp jaws around a single conductor (live or neutral wire). Ensure the conductor is centered within the jaws for accurate readings.
- Close the clamp jaws. The AC current reading will be displayed on the 4-digit LCD.

6.3 Data Hold and Peak Hold
- Data Hold: Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current measurement on the display for easy reading. Press again to release.
- Peak Hold: This function captures and holds the peak current value. Refer to the specific button on your device for activation.
6.4 Data Storage
The meter can store up to 99 groups of data. Consult the detailed user manual included in your package for specific instructions on how to save and recall data.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
Wipe the meter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the clamp jaws clean and free of debris.
7.2 Battery Replacement
Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate measurements and prevent potential damage from battery leakage.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Display: Check battery installation and charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the conductor is centered in the clamp jaws. Verify the correct measurement mode is selected. Check for external electromagnetic interference.
- Meter Not Responding: Try turning the meter off and on again. If the issue persists, remove batteries for a few minutes and reinsert.
