4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Grinding Coffee Beans
The integrated burr grinder offers 15 grind size options, from coarse to ultrafine, allowing precise control over your coffee extraction.
- Select your desired grind size using the adjustment dial on the bean hopper. Finer grinds are typically used for espresso.
- Place the portafilter into the grinding cradle.
- Press and hold the grind button to dispense freshly ground coffee into the portafilter.

4.2 Brewing Espresso
The Garvee EZ01 utilizes an Italian ULKA 15 Bar Pump and Precise Water Temperature Control (PID) for optimal extraction and rich crema.
- After grinding, tamp the coffee grounds evenly and firmly in the portafilter.
- Insert the portafilter into the group head and lock it into place.
- Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray beneath the portafilter.
- Select your desired shot size (single or double) using the control panel buttons. The machine will initiate a low-pressure pre-soaking phase before full extraction.
- The espresso will begin to flow. Once the desired volume is reached, the machine will stop automatically.

4.3 Milk Frothing
The powerful steam wand creates creamy microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos.
- Fill the milk pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy).
- Turn the steam/hot water knob to the steam position. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate.
- Purge the steam wand briefly into the drip tray to remove any condensed water.
- Submerge the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve fully.
- Angle the pitcher to create a swirling motion, incorporating air for frothing.
- Once the desired texture and temperature are reached, close the steam valve and remove the pitcher.
- Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso machine.
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Portafilter and Filters: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard the coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily or when the 'Empty Me' indicator appears.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Purge the steam wand briefly to clear any milk residue from the nozzle. Use the cleaning needle if the nozzle becomes blocked.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
5.2 Descaling
The machine features an auto-clean function and a 'DESCALE' indicator light to prompt descaling. Descaling removes mineral buildup, which can affect machine performance and coffee taste. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage.
- Refer to the descaling solution manufacturer's instructions for proper dilution.
- Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
- Place a large container under the coffee spout and steam wand.
- Follow the machine's specific descaling procedure (usually initiated by pressing and holding the 'DESCALE' button).
- After descaling, rinse the water tank thoroughly and run several cycles with fresh water to flush out any remaining descaling solution.
5.3 Grinder Cleaning
Periodically clean the burr grinder to prevent oil buildup and ensure consistent grinding.
- Empty the bean hopper.
- Remove the upper burr and clean it with the provided cleaning brush.
- Clean the lower burr and the grinding chute.
- Reassemble the grinder components.
