Important Safety Instructions

  • Read all instructions before operating the appliance.

3. Initial Setup

3.2 Water Tank Installation and Filling

The machine features an 85 oz (2.5 L) removable water tank. Ensure the tank is clean before first use.

  1. Lift the water tank from the back of the machine.
  2. Fill the tank with fresh, cold filtered water up to the MAX line.
  3. Place the water tank back into its position, ensuring it is securely seated.

3.3 Bean Hopper Filling

Fill the integrated bean hopper with fresh whole coffee beans. Ensure the lid is securely placed to maintain bean freshness.

3.4 Initial Rinse Cycle

Before making your first coffee, perform an initial rinse cycle to clean the internal components:

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Place a large container under the coffee spout and steam wand.
  3. Turn on the machine. Allow it to heat up.
  4. Run a cycle without coffee in the portafilter.
  5. Activate the steam wand briefly to flush any residual water.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Grinding Coffee Beans

The integrated burr grinder offers 15 grind size options, from coarse to ultrafine, allowing precise control over your coffee extraction.

  1. Select your desired grind size using the adjustment dial on the bean hopper. Finer grinds are typically used for espresso.
  2. Place the portafilter into the grinding cradle.
  3. Press and hold the grind button to dispense freshly ground coffee into the portafilter.

4.2 Brewing Espresso

The Garvee EZ01 utilizes an Italian ULKA 15 Bar Pump and Precise Water Temperature Control (PID) for optimal extraction and rich crema.

  1. After grinding, tamp the coffee grounds evenly and firmly in the portafilter.
  2. Insert the portafilter into the group head and lock it into place.
  3. Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray beneath the portafilter.
  4. Select your desired shot size (single or double) using the control panel buttons. The machine will initiate a low-pressure pre-soaking phase before full extraction.
  5. The espresso will begin to flow. Once the desired volume is reached, the machine will stop automatically.

4.3 Milk Frothing

The powerful steam wand creates creamy microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos.

  1. Fill the milk pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy).
  2. Turn the steam/hot water knob to the steam position. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate.
  3. Purge the steam wand briefly into the drip tray to remove any condensed water.
  4. Submerge the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve fully.
  5. Angle the pitcher to create a swirling motion, incorporating air for frothing.
  6. Once the desired texture and temperature are reached, close the steam valve and remove the pitcher.
  7. Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

5.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filters: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard the coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily or when the 'Empty Me' indicator appears.
  • Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Purge the steam wand briefly to clear any milk residue from the nozzle. Use the cleaning needle if the nozzle becomes blocked.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

5.2 Descaling

The machine features an auto-clean function and a 'DESCALE' indicator light to prompt descaling. Descaling removes mineral buildup, which can affect machine performance and coffee taste. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage.

  1. Refer to the descaling solution manufacturer's instructions for proper dilution.
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the coffee spout and steam wand.
