- Plug In: Insert the detector into a standard 110V-220V AC electrical outlet. Ensure it is securely plugged in.
- Initial Adaptation: After plugging in, the detector requires approximately 180 seconds to adapt to the environment. During this time, the display may show fluctuating readings.
- Temperature/Humidity Stabilization: For accurate temperature and humidity readings, allow the unit to operate for 30 minutes after powering on, as the unit may generate some heat initially.
5. Operation & Alarm Thresholds
The detector continuously monitors CO, combustible gas, temperature, and humidity. Readings are displayed in real-time on the LCD screen.
Understanding Alarm Levels:

Image: The detector's display illustrating different alarm states (Good, Attention, Warning, Danger) based on CO and gas concentration levels.
- Good (Green Indicator): CO: 0~50 PPM, GAS: <5% LEL. No audible alarm.
- Attention (Yellow-Orange Indicator): CO: 51~100 PPM, GAS: 5%~<8% LEL. Yellow-orange indicator blinks slowly. >85 dB audible alarm sounds.
- Warning (Orange Indicator): CO: 101~150 PPM, GAS: 8%~<15% LEL. Orange indicator blinks fast. >85 dB audible alarm sounds.
- Danger (Red Indicator): CO: 150~999 PPM, GAS: >15% LEL. Red indicator blinks fast. >85 dB audible alarm sounds.
Adjusting Gas Sensitivity:
The detector features two gas sensitivity levels (S1 and S2) for combustible gases.

Image: The detector demonstrating the 180-degree screen flip function and the two gas sensitivity settings (S1 and S2).
- S1 (Low Sensitivity): Recommended for Methane (CH4) and general combustible gases.
- S2 (High Sensitivity): Recommended for Butane, Alcohol, and other combustible gases.
To switch between S1 and S2, long press the button labeled A9 (Brightness/Sensitivity Switch).
Other Functions:
- Self-Test: Short press button A8.
- Temperature Unit Switch (°F/°C): Long press button A8.
- Adjust Brightness: Short press button A9.
- Sound On/Off: Short press button A10.
- Flip Screen 180°: Long press button A10.
6. Testing the Detector
Regular testing ensures the detector is functioning correctly.

Image: Visual guide for testing Carbon Monoxide detection using a lit cigarette and Combustible Gas detection by releasing gas near the inlet.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) Test:
Carbon monoxide detectors can be tested using a lit cigarette gas calibration device. The CO sound alarm range is initially defaulted to 51 PPM. Note: Carbon dioxide cannot be detected by this unit.
Combustible Gas Test:
To test combustible gas detection, carefully blow out a lighter without letting it ignite, and release the gas near the air inlet of the detector. The GAS sound alarm range is set to Level 2 (≥5% LEL).
7. Placement Guidelines
Proper placement is crucial for effective detection. This plug-and-play detector is suitable for various indoor environments.

Image: Examples of suitable installation locations for the detector, including bedrooms, kitchens, RVs, offices, and hotels.
Recommended locations include:
- Home kitchens
- Bedrooms
- Home offices
- Basements
- Living rooms
- Storage rooms
- Game rooms
- Cellars
- Offices
- Restaurants
- Hotels
- RVs and cruise ships (for travel safety)
Ensure the detector is placed in an area where air circulates freely and is not obstructed by furniture or curtains. Avoid placing it near vents, windows, or areas with high humidity or extreme temperatures that could affect sensor performance.
8. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your detector, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Regular Cleaning: Gently wipe the exterior of the detector with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use cleaning sprays, solvents, or polishes, as these can damage the unit or interfere with sensor operation.
- Avoid Obstructions: Ensure that the ventilation openings (B4) on the detector are not blocked by dust, dirt, or other objects.
- Do Not Paint: Never paint the detector. Paint can clog the openings and prevent gases from reaching the sensors.
- Regular Testing: Test the alarm function regularly as described in Section 6 to confirm it is working correctly.
- Environmental Conditions: Keep the detector within its specified operating humidity and temperature ranges to maintain accuracy.
9. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your detector, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Detector does not power on. | Not properly plugged in; power outage. | Ensure the detector is firmly plugged into a live outlet. Check household circuit breaker. |
| Alarm sounds frequently without apparent gas leak. | False alarm due to interfering substances (e.g., strong cleaning agents, alcohol vapors); high sensitivity setting. | Ventilate the area. Relocate the detector away from sources of interfering vapors. If gas alarm, try switching to S1 (low sensitivity) if appropriate for your environment. |
| Display readings are inaccurate (temperature/humidity). | Unit recently powered on; environmental factors. | Allow 30 minutes for the unit to stabilize after plugging in. Ensure proper ventilation and avoid direct heat sources. |
| Alarm is too quiet. | Sound function turned off. | Short press button A10 to ensure sound is enabled. The alarm volume is fixed at ≥ 85 dB. |
| Screen does not flip. | Incorrect button press. | Long press button A10 to activate the 180° screen flip function. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact Kalawen customer service.
