4. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions when using the VIVOHOME Digital HVAC Manifold Gauge Set:
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves, when handling refrigerants.
- Ensure proper ventilation in the work area to prevent the accumulation of refrigerant vapors.
- Do not expose refrigerant cans or cylinders to excessive heat or direct sunlight.
- Always connect hoses securely to prevent leaks and sudden pressure releases.
- Never overcharge an AC system. Refer to the vehicle or system manufacturer's specifications for correct refrigerant charge amounts.
- Keep the gauge set clean and free from debris. Store it in the provided carrying case when not in use.
- This device requires three AAA batteries. Ensure they are installed correctly according to polarity markings.
5. Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to set up your VIVOHOME Digital HVAC Manifold Gauge Set for use:
- Prepare the Gauge Set: Remove the digital manifold gauge set and all accessories from the carrying case.
- Connect Refrigerant Hoses: Connect the three color-coded refrigerant hoses to the manifold gauge ports. The red hose connects to the high-pressure port, the blue hose to the low-pressure port, and the yellow hose to the refrigeration port (service port).
Video 5.1: Connecting the three-color refrigerant hoses to the manifold gauge ports (0:04 - 0:12).
- Attach Quick Couplers: Attach the appropriate quick couplers (R-134a or R-1234yf) to the blue (low-pressure) and red (high-pressure) hoses respectively. Ensure the quick coupler knobs are in the CLOSED position before connecting to the vehicle.
Video 5.2: Attaching quick couplers to hoses and ensuring they are in the CLOSED position (0:13 - 0:26).
- Connect to Vehicle A/C Ports: Connect the quick couplers to the vehicle's A/C high and low-pressure ports. Once connected, turn the quick coupler knobs to the OPEN position.
Video 5.3: Connecting quick couplers to the vehicle's A/C ports and opening the knobs (0:27 - 0:38).
- Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back of the digital manifold gauge and insert three AAA batteries, observing correct polarity.
- Power On: Press and hold the power button on the unit to turn it on.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Vacuuming Operation (Evacuation)
Evacuating the A/C system removes air and moisture, which are critical for proper system function.
- Connect Vacuum Pump: Connect the yellow hose from the manifold gauge to your vacuum pump.
Video 6.1: Connecting the yellow hose to the vacuum pump (0:39 - 0:46).
- Open Manifold Valves: Open both the high and low-pressure valves on the manifold gauge.
Video 6.2: Opening the high and low-pressure valves on the manifold (0:47 - 0:50).
- Switch to Vacuum Mode: Turn on the digital manifold gauge unit and switch it to vacuum mode to monitor the evacuation process.
Video 6.3: Powering on the unit and switching to vacuum mode (0:51 - 0:55).
- Start Vacuum Pump: Start the vacuum pump to begin evacuating the A/C system. Monitor the vacuum pressure on the digital gauge.
Video 6.4: Starting the vacuum pump and monitoring vacuum progress (0:56 - 1:07).
- Close Valves & Turn Off Pump: Once the vacuum pressure reaches -14.5 psi and the progress is 100%, close both high and low-pressure valves on the manifold, then turn off the vacuum pump.
Video 6.5: Closing manifold valves and turning off the vacuum pump after evacuation (1:08 - 1:13).
6.2 Refrigerant Filling (Charging)
After evacuation, the system is ready for refrigerant charging.
- Connect Can Tap: Disconnect the yellow hose from the vacuum pump and connect it to the appropriate self-sealing can tap. Ensure the can tap knob is turned counter-clockwise to the top (closed position) before attaching to the refrigerant can.
Video 6.6: Connecting the yellow hose to the can tap and preparing the can tap (1:14 - 1:20).
- Attach Refrigerant Can: Attach the refrigerant can to the can tap. Turn the can tap knob clockwise to pierce and open the refrigerant can.
Video 6.7: Attaching the refrigerant can to the can tap and opening the can (1:21 - 1:27).
- Purge Air from Yellow Hose: Slightly loosen the yellow hose connection at the manifold to purge any air from the hose before charging. Tighten it immediately once refrigerant starts to escape.
Video 6.8: Purging air from the yellow hose (1:31 - 1:32).
- Start Charging: Turn on the car's air conditioning system to activate the compressor. Open the manifold's high and low-pressure valves to allow refrigerant to be drawn into the vehicle A/C system.
Video 6.9: Turning on the car's A/C system and opening manifold valves to draw refrigerant (1:46 - 1:54).
- Monitor Pressure & Stop Charging: Continuously monitor the pressure on the digital gauge. Once the desired pressure is reached (refer to vehicle specifications), close the low-pressure valve to stop charging. Then close the high-pressure valve.
Video 6.10: Monitoring pressure and closing valves to stop charging (1:57 - 1:59).
- Disconnect: Turn off the vehicle's A/C system. Close the quick coupler knobs and disconnect the hoses from the vehicle's A/C ports.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the digital manifold gauge and hoses with a clean, damp cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the gauge set in its original carrying case in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the AAA batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Ensure proper disposal of old batteries.
- Hose Inspection: Regularly inspect hoses for cracks, wear, or damage. Replace damaged hoses immediately to prevent refrigerant leaks.
- Calibration: While the unit is designed for high accuracy, periodic professional calibration may be considered for critical applications.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Gauge not powering on | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries | Check battery polarity; replace batteries. |
