Operating Instructions

1. Circuit Breaker Identification (Scan Mode)

  1. Plug the transmitter unit into the electrical outlet or fixture you wish to trace. Ensure the transmitter is powered on (indicated by green and red lights).
  2. Go to your electrical panel. Power on the receiver unit.
  3. Slowly scan the circuit breakers in the panel with the sensing tip of the receiver. During the first scan, the receiver will emit a flashing light to quickly identify potential circuit breakers. Ignore any sound or visual indications at this stage.
  4. Perform a second scan. As you approach the correct circuit breaker, the receiver's beep frequency will increase and become continuous, accompanied by flashing lights. This indicates the exact circuit breaker controlling the outlet.
Scan Mode instructions showing two steps: first scan to learn, second scan to locate the circuit breaker with flashing lights and beeps.

2. Sensitivity Adjustment (Manual Mode)

In complex environments or lines with irregular routing, the initial scan mode might not pinpoint the exact breaker immediately. The XT-33A features adjustable sensitivity to help in such situations.

  • If the initial scan is inconclusive, press the Sensitivity button on the receiver to switch between different sensitivity levels (low to high).
  • Repeat the scanning process with adjusted sensitivity until the target circuit breaker is accurately located.

3. Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection

The NCV mode allows for quick detection of live electrical wires without direct contact, enhancing safety during electrical work.

  • Press the NCV button on the receiver to activate NCV mode.
  • Place the sensing tip near a wire or socket. The receiver will indicate the presence of AC voltage through visual and audible alerts.

4. GFCI Outlet Testing

The transmitter unit includes a built-in GFCI outlet tester to inspect wiring conditions and test GFCI devices for proper functionality.

  • Plug the transmitter into a GFCI-protected outlet.
  • Observe the LED status indicators on the transmitter to determine the wiring condition (e.g., correct wiring, open ground, open neutral, open hot, hot & ground reverse, hot & neutral reverse, hot on neutral with hot open).
  • Press the GFCI test button on the transmitter. If the GFCI device trips, it is functioning correctly.

5. Flashlight Function

  • Short press the Flashlight/Power On/Off Selection button on the receiver to turn the built-in high-brightness LED flashlight on or off. This is useful for working in dim or dark environments.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the tool in its provided carrying case in a cool, dry place when not in use. Remove the 9V battery if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears or if the device does not power on.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Xin Tester XT-33A, consider the following:

  • Device Not Powering On:
    • Ensure the 9V battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
    • Verify that the power button is long-pressed to activate the device.
  • Inaccurate Circuit Breaker Identification:
    • Adjust the sensitivity level of the receiver (Manual Mode) to a lower setting, especially in crowded electrical panels or areas with high electromagnetic interference.
    • Ensure the sensing tip is held perpendicular to each circuit breaker during scanning.
    • Scan slowly and methodically across all breakers.
  • GFCI Test Failure:
    • Confirm the outlet is indeed GFCI-protected.
    • Check the wiring condition indicators on the transmitter. If there are wiring faults, the GFCI test may not function correctly.
  • No NCV Indication:
    • Ensure NCV mode is activated.
    • Verify the wire or device is live and carrying AC voltage.
