3. Operation
3.1 Controls Overview
The Ibanez AZ22S1F features a straightforward control layout for versatile sound shaping.

Figure 3: Diagram of the guitar's control layout.
- Volume Knob: Adjusts the overall output volume of the guitar.
- Tone Knob: Adjusts the treble response, from bright to warm.
- 5-Way Pickup Selector: Selects different pickup combinations.
- Alter Switch (Mini Switch): Engages the Dyna-MIX 9 system, offering additional tonal variations.
3.2 Dyna-MIX 9 Switching System
The Dyna-MIX 9 system provides nine distinct sound variations, allowing you to switch between humbucker and single-coil modes, and even simulate a humbucking sound from two single-coil pickups. This system is controlled by the 5-way pickup selector and the Alter Switch.

Refer to the diagram above for specific pickup configurations in each mode. The top row (Alter SW. Mode 1) shows configurations when the Alter Switch is in one position, and the bottom row (Alter SW. Mode 2) shows configurations when the Alter Switch is in the other position.
3.3 T106 Tremolo Bridge
The T106 tremolo bridge features six independent saddles, allowing for precise height and intonation adjustment for each string. This design contributes to tuning stability and allows for expressive pitch modulation.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
- Wipe down the guitar body, neck, and strings with a soft, clean cloth after each use to remove sweat and oils.
- For the body, use a guitar-specific polish or cleaner sparingly. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Clean the fretboard with a dedicated fretboard cleaner and conditioner periodically, especially if it appears dry.
4.2 String Replacement
- Replace strings regularly to maintain optimal tone and playability.
- When replacing strings, change them one at a time to maintain neck tension.
- Ensure new strings are properly seated in the locking machine heads and bridge saddles.
4.3 Fretboard Care
The Jatoba fretboard benefits from occasional conditioning to prevent drying and cracking. Use a small amount of lemon oil or a specialized fretboard conditioner applied with a clean cloth. Wipe off any excess.
4.4 Neck Adjustment
The roasted maple neck is designed for increased stability. However, environmental changes can sometimes affect neck relief. If you notice excessive fret buzz or high action, the truss rod may need adjustment. It is recommended that truss rod adjustments be performed by a qualified guitar technician.

5. Troubleshooting
- No Sound:
- Check if the instrument cable is securely connected to both the guitar and amplifier.
- Ensure the amplifier is powered on and its volume is not at zero.
- Verify the guitar's volume knob is turned up.
- Test with a different cable or amplifier to isolate the issue.
- Fret Buzz:
- Check string action (height).
- Ensure strings are not too old or worn.
- Neck relief may need adjustment (consult a technician).
- Poor Tuning Stability:
- Ensure strings are properly stretched and seated in the locking tuners.
- Check for worn strings or issues with the bridge saddles.
- Environmental changes can affect tuning; allow the guitar to acclimate.
