2. Fitting Instructions (Boil and Bite Method)

Proper fitting is essential for the effectiveness and comfort of your Venum Predator Mouthguard. Follow these steps carefully to achieve a secure and protective custom fit:

  1. Prepare Water: Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil.
  2. Submerge Mouthguard: Carefully place the mouthguard into the boiling water for 30 seconds. Use tongs or a spoon to avoid direct contact with hot water.
  3. Cool Slightly: Remove the mouthguard from the boiling water and quickly dip it into cold water for 1-2 seconds to cool the outer surface slightly, making it safe to handle.
  4. Position in Mouth: While looking in a mirror, carefully place the mouthguard into your mouth. Ensure your bottom jaw aligns in the middle of the mouthguard. You may need to extend your bottom jaw slightly forward to achieve this initial alignment.
  5. Bite Down and Mold: Bite down firmly on the mouthguard. While biting, suck in to create a vacuum, pressing the mouthguard against your teeth and gums. Use your fingers to press the mouthguard against your lips and cheeks, ensuring a tight fit around your teeth. Focus on pressing the front and side areas.
  6. Refine Lower Jaw Fit: While still biting and sucking, use your thumbs to apply upward pressure on your lower jaw, pushing it firmly into the mouthguard. Simultaneously, gently pull your lower jaw backward into a more natural position. This helps ensure the lower teeth are centered and properly seated.
  7. Hold Position: Maintain this biting, sucking, and pressing position for 10-15 seconds to allow the material to set.
  8. Cool and Test: Remove the mouthguard and immediately place it in a bowl of ice water for at least 10 minutes to harden the custom shape. After cooling, test the fit. It should feel snug and secure, staying in place without needing to be held by your tongue.
  9. Repeat if Necessary: If the fit is not satisfactory, you can repeat the boiling and molding process.

3. Usage

Once properly fitted, wear your Venum Predator Mouthguard during all sports activities where dental protection is required or recommended. This includes, but is not limited to, boxing, MMA, martial arts, and other contact sports. Ensure the mouthguard is securely in place before beginning any activity.

4. Care and Maintenance

To ensure hygiene and prolong the life of your mouthguard, follow these care instructions:

  • Cleaning: After each use, rinse your mouthguard thoroughly with cold water. You can also clean it with a toothbrush and mild soap or a non-abrasive mouthguard cleaning solution.
  • Storage: Store your mouthguard in the provided ventilated case to prevent bacterial growth and protect it from damage. Do not store it in direct sunlight or extreme heat.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect your mouthguard for any signs of wear, tears, or damage. A damaged mouthguard may not provide adequate protection and should be replaced.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Mouthguard feels too bulky or uncomfortable: This can occur if the molding process was not precise. Re-boil and re-mold the mouthguard, paying close attention to pressing it firmly against your teeth and gums, and ensuring your lower jaw is properly aligned. Some users find that the outer rubber layer can retain its shape, contributing to bulkiness. Focus on molding the inner gel layer as much as possible.
  • Mouthguard does not stay in place: This indicates an insufficient custom fit. Repeat the fitting process, ensuring you bite down firmly, suck in to create a vacuum, and use your fingers to press the material tightly against your teeth and gums for the full duration.
  • Difficulty breathing or speaking: While the Predator Mouthguard features a ventilation system, an improper fit can still impede breathing or speech. Ensure the mouthguard is not too far back in your mouth and that the molding process created enough space for your tongue and airway. Re-molding might be necessary.
