User Manual

Introduction

This user manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Philips DST1030/20 Steam Iron. Please read this manual thoroughly before first use and keep it for future reference.

Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before using the iron.
  • Use the iron only for its intended use.
  • To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
  • Always turn the iron OFF before plugging or unplugging from the electrical outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
  • Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
  • The iron should always be turned to OFF before plugging or unplugging from outlet.
  • Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron.
  • Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
  • Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down – there may be hot water in the reservoir.
  • The iron must be used and rested on a stable surface.
  • When placing the iron on its heel, ensure that the surface on which it is placed is stable.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the iron from its packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport. Remove any protective films or stickers from the soleplate.
  2. First Use Preparation: Before first use, it is recommended to iron an old piece of fabric to ensure any manufacturing residues are removed from the soleplate.
  3. Filling the Water Tank:
    • Ensure the iron is unplugged and cooled down.
    • Open the water filling inlet.
    • Fill the water tank with tap water up to the 'MAX' indicator. The capacity is approximately 250 ml. For areas with hard water, consider using a mix of tap water and distilled water (50/50) to prolong the iron's life.
    • Close the water filling inlet securely.

Operating Instructions

1. Preparing for Ironing

  • Sort laundry according to fabric type (e.g., linen, cotton, silk, synthetics).
  • Check garment care labels for recommended ironing temperatures.
  • Place the iron on its heel on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Plug the iron into a suitable electrical outlet.

2. Setting Temperature

  • Turn the temperature dial to the desired setting based on the fabric type. The indicator light will illuminate.
  • Wait for the indicator light to turn off, indicating the iron has reached the set temperature.

3. Steam Ironing

  • Ensure the water tank is filled.
  • Set the temperature dial to a steam-suitable setting (usually cotton, linen, or max). Steam will not be generated at lower temperatures.
  • Adjust the steam control slider to the desired steam output.
  • For an extra burst of steam, press the steam shot button. This is useful for stubborn creases.
  • For vertical steaming (e.g., curtains, hanging garments), hold the iron vertically and press the steam shot button.

  • Set the temperature dial according to the fabric type.

5. After Ironing

  • Turn the temperature dial to the 'MIN' or 'OFF' position.
  • Unplug the iron from the electrical outlet.
  • Allow the iron to cool down completely before storing.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Soleplate

  • Ensure the iron is unplugged and completely cool.
  • Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner if necessary. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or harsh cleaners as they can damage the stainless steel soleplate.

2. Descaling / Calc-Clean Function

Regular descaling helps maintain optimal steam performance and prolong the life of your iron. Refer to the iron's specific instructions for its calc-clean function, typically involving filling the tank, heating the iron, and then pressing a dedicated calc-clean button while holding it over a sink to flush out scale particles.

3. Storage

  • Always empty the water tank after each use to prevent mineral build-up and leakage.
  • Allow the iron to cool down completely.
  • Store the iron upright on its heel in a safe, dry place.
  • Do not wrap the power cord tightly around the iron; loop it loosely.
