Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your Moonrays 50W Low Voltage Landscape Transformer. This transformer is designed to power low-voltage outdoor lighting systems, featuring an integrated dusk-to-dawn sensor and an astronomical timer for automated control of your landscape lights.
Safety Information
- Read all instructions: Before installation and operation, thoroughly read and understand all instructions.
- Electrical Safety: Always disconnect power at the source before installing, servicing, or cleaning the transformer or lighting fixtures. Ensure the transformer is connected to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected outlet.
- Placement: Do not install the transformer near a water source such as a pond, fountain, or swimming pool. Avoid installing near other strong light sources that could interfere with the dusk-to-dawn sensor.
- Outdoor Use Only: This transformer is designed for outdoor use and is weather-resistant. However, ensure it is mounted in a location that minimizes direct exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Wire Gauge: Use appropriate low-voltage landscape wire (12-16 gauge) suitable for your total wattage and cable run length. Thicker wire (lower gauge number) provides better power stability over longer distances.
- Total Wattage: Do not exceed the transformer's maximum wattage capacity of 50 Watts. Calculate the total wattage of all connected lights to ensure it is within this limit.

Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to install your low voltage landscape lighting system.
1. Transformer Placement
Select a suitable location for the transformer. It should be mounted vertically on a wall or post, at about the same height as your GFCI protected outdoor outlet. Ensure the location is not prone to standing water and is away from other strong light sources that could interfere with the dusk-to-dawn sensor.

2. Connecting Low Voltage Wire
Open the transformer's wiring compartment. Remove a small portion of the insulation from the ends of your low voltage landscape wire. Insert the exposed wire ends into the two terminals located inside the transformer's compartment. Secure the wires by tightening the terminal screws. Close the compartment cover.

3. Connecting Lighting Fixtures
Position your low voltage lighting fixtures along the landscape wire according to your design. Most fixtures come with connector clips. To connect a fixture, align the landscape wire with the metal pins inside the connector clip. Press the clip firmly to pierce the wire insulation and establish an electrical connection. Ensure a secure connection for each fixture.
4. Burying the Landscape Wire
Once all fixtures are connected and tested, bury the landscape wire. It is recommended to bury the wire less than 6 inches underground to protect it from damage and for aesthetic purposes.

1. Dusk-to-Dawn Sensor
The integrated dusk-to-dawn sensor automatically turns your lights on at sunset and off at sunrise. This mode provides continuous illumination during nighttime hours without manual intervention.

Image: This graphic illustrates how the dusk-to-dawn sensor operates, automatically activating lights when it gets dark and deactivating them at dawn.
2. Astronomical Timer
The built-in astronomical timer allows you to customize the duration your lights remain on after dusk. You can set the timer for 2, 4, 6, or 8 hours. This feature is ideal for conserving energy while ensuring your landscape is lit for a specific period each night.
3. User Interface
Use the 'Mode', 'Enter', and arrow buttons on the transformer's display to navigate through settings and select your desired operating mode (Dusk-to-Dawn or Astronomical Timer with specific duration). Refer to the on-screen prompts for detailed programming steps.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the transformer's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Ensure the dusk-to-dawn sensor is free from dirt or obstructions for optimal performance.
- Weather Resistance: The transformer features a weather-resistant casing. However, prolonged exposure to direct heavy rain or snow can be mitigated by installing it under an overhang or in a sheltered location.
- Wire Inspection: Regularly inspect the low voltage wiring for any signs of damage, fraying, or exposed conductors. Repair or replace damaged sections immediately to prevent electrical hazards.

Troubleshooting
- Lights not turning on: Check the power connection to the GFCI outlet. Ensure the transformer is receiving power. Verify the timer settings and dusk-to-dawn sensor are not obstructed. Inspect all wire connections for looseness or damage.
- Lights flickering or dim: This may indicate insufficient power due to too many lights, too thin a wire gauge for the distance, or a loose connection. Reduce the number of lights, use a thicker gauge wire, or check all connections.
- Dusk-to-dawn sensor not working: Ensure the sensor is clean and not obstructed by debris, leaves, or other objects. Confirm there are no other strong light sources nearby that could be tricking the sensor into thinking it is daytime.
