3. Power Connection

Connect the provided AC power cord to the power inlet on the rear of the SCXI-1001 chassis. Plug the other end into a grounded AC power outlet. The chassis is designed for AC power input.

4. Data Acquisition Device Connection

Connect your multifunction I/O device or other compatible data acquisition device to the SCXI-1001 chassis. Refer to the documentation for your specific I/O device for connection details. This connection facilitates communication and control of the SCXI modules within the chassis.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On

Once all modules are securely installed and power is connected, turn on the power switch on the chassis. Observe the power indicator light to confirm the unit is receiving power.

2. Signal Routing and Timing

The SCXI-1001 chassis provides internal signal routing and timing capabilities. Configuration of these features is typically performed through software drivers and applications associated with your connected data acquisition device (e.g., NI-DAQmx). Consult your software documentation for detailed instructions on configuring signal paths and timing parameters for your specific application.

3. Daisy-Chaining Multiple Chassis

For high-channel-count applications, up to eight SCXI-1001 chassis can be daisy-chained together using a single multifunction I/O device. Use the appropriate daisy-chaining cables and follow the connection diagrams provided in the National Instruments SCXI system documentation. Ensure proper termination if required by the daisy-chain configuration.

Maintenance

The SCXI-1001 chassis is designed for minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the chassis with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the chassis is powered off and disconnected from the power source before cleaning.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the chassis are not obstructed. Proper airflow is crucial for dissipating heat and maintaining optimal operating temperatures.
  • Module Seating: Occasionally check that all installed SCXI modules are securely seated in their slots. Loose connections can lead to intermittent performance issues.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Chassis does not power on.No power to the outlet; power cord not connected; power switch off.Verify power outlet functionality; ensure power cord is securely connected; turn on the power switch.
Modules not recognized by software.Modules not fully seated; incorrect software drivers; I/O device not connected properly.Reseat modules firmly; install correct NI-DAQmx drivers; check connection between I/O device and chassis.
Intermittent signal readings.Loose module connection; excessive electrical noise; faulty module.Ensure modules are securely seated; check grounding and shielding; test with a known good module.
