1. Product Overview
The GJS Gourmet Replacement Float Valve is an essential component for the proper and safe operation of your MegaChef 12 Quart Digital Pressure Cooker. This float valve, also known as a vent stem, is designed to seal the pressure cooker lid, allowing pressure to build safely inside the cooker during operation.
When pressure increases, the float valve rises and is held in place by its sealing ring, preventing steam from escaping. A properly functioning float valve is critical for achieving and maintaining the necessary pressure for cooking.
2. Safety Information
- Always ensure the pressure cooker is depressurized and cool before attempting to install or remove any parts.
- Use only genuine or compatible replacement parts to ensure safe operation.
- Inspect the float valve and its sealing ring for any signs of wear, damage, or cracks before each use. Replace immediately if any damage is observed.
- Never force the float valve into place. It should fit securely but without excessive force.
3. Package Contents
- 1 x GJS Gourmet Replacement Float Valve
4. Installation
The float valve is installed in the lid of your pressure cooker. Follow these steps for proper installation:
- Ensure the pressure cooker lid is clean and free from any debris.
- Insert the metallic pin of the float valve into the designated hole on the outside of the pressure cooker lid.
- From the inside of the lid, place the silicone sealing ring onto the float valve pin. The sealing ring should securely lock the float valve in place, preventing it from falling out.
- Gently tug on the float valve from the outside to ensure it is firmly seated and the sealing ring is properly positioned on the inside. The float valve should be able to move freely up and down slightly.

This image illustrates the GJS Gourmet Replacement Float Valve correctly installed in the lid of a pressure cooker. The float valve, a small metallic pin with a white silicone sealing ring, is visible from the inside of the lid. A red arrow indicates its position, highlighting how it sits flush against the lid's interior surface when properly seated.
5. Operation
During the cooking process, as pressure builds inside the MegaChef 12 Quart Digital Pressure Cooker, the float valve will rise due to the internal pressure. The silicone sealing ring will then create a tight seal, preventing steam from escaping and allowing the cooker to reach and maintain its operating pressure. Once the cooking cycle is complete and the pressure is released, the float valve will drop back down, indicating that it is safe to open the lid.
6. Maintenance
- After each use, carefully remove the float valve and its silicone sealing ring from the lid.
- Wash both the float valve and the sealing ring with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry completely before reassembling or storing.
- Regularly inspect the silicone sealing ring for any signs of wear, hardening, cracking, or discoloration. A worn sealing ring can lead to steam leaks and prevent the pressure cooker from building pressure. Replace the sealing ring if it shows any signs of damage or degradation.
7. Troubleshooting
If your pressure cooker is not building pressure or steam is leaking from the lid, the float valve or its sealing ring may be the cause. Consider the following:
- Steam Leakage: The most common reason for steam leakage around the float valve is a damaged or missing sealing ring. Ensure the sealing ring is properly installed and free from damage. If damaged, replace it immediately.
- Float Valve Not Rising: If the float valve does not rise during cooking, it could indicate insufficient pressure buildup, a faulty sealing ring, or a blockage. Check the sealing ring for proper placement and condition. Ensure the pressure cooker is properly sealed and has enough liquid.
- Float Valve Stuck: Food particles or debris can sometimes cause the float valve to stick. Ensure the float valve and its housing are clean.
