2. Safety Instructions

Always adhere to the following safety guidelines to prevent injury or damage to the equipment:

  • Ensure all connections are securely tightened before operation to prevent steam leakage. Use a wrench for firm connections.
  • Operate the distiller in a well-ventilated area to avoid accumulation of vapors.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces during or immediately after operation. Allow the unit to cool completely before handling.
  • Keep children and pets away from the operating unit.
  • Always monitor the temperature during distillation using the built-in thermometer.
  • Do not overfill the fermentation barrel.
  • Ensure the one-way exhaust valve is properly installed and functioning during fermentation to release gases.
  • Use appropriate heating methods and ensure stable placement of the unit on the heat source.
  • The kit is made from food-grade materials; however, always clean components thoroughly before and after each use.

4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble your VEVOR Alcohol Still:

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging and verify against the components list.
  2. Assemble Fermentation Barrel: Place the barrel lid onto the fermentation barrel. Ensure the built-in seals are properly seated for a secure fit. Fasten the four fixed sealing latches firmly.
  3. Install Thermometer: The dual display thermometer is integrated into the lid. Ensure it is securely in place.
  4. Attach One-way Exhaust Valve: Insert the one-way exhaust valve into its designated opening on the barrel lid. This is crucial for gas release during fermentation.
  5. Connect Cooling Pot: Position the cooling pot on top of the fermentation barrel.
  6. Connect Tubes:
    • Connect the flexible stainless steel pipe from the fermentation barrel to the inlet of the cooling pot.
    • Attach the copper steam outlet pipe from the cooling pot to the liquor outlet tube.
    • Connect the silicone tubes for water circulation between the cooling pot and the water pump. Ensure the water pump's outlet connects to the cooling pot's inlet and the cooling pot's outlet connects back to the water reservoir.
  7. Secure Connections: Apply silicone leak-proof plugs at all corrugated pipe joints and use a wrench to securely tighten all connections. This prevents steam leakage and ensures safety.
  8. Prepare Water Pump: Place the water pump in a separate bucket or container filled with cold water and ice for efficient cooling.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Fermentation Process (Optional)

If you are fermenting your mash directly in the barrel:

  1. Prepare your ingredients (e.g., fruit, grain, barley, rice) and mash according to your recipe.
  2. Fill the fermentation barrel, ensuring not to exceed the recommended fill level.
  3. Ensure the one-way exhaust valve is properly installed. This valve will release excess gas produced during fermentation, maintaining stable air pressure.
  4. For optimal fermentation, add half of the water to the exhaust valve before use.
  5. Allow the fermentation process to complete as per your recipe's requirements.

5.2. Distillation Process

  1. Prepare for Distillation: If not already done, ensure the fermentation barrel contains the liquid to be distilled. Secure the lid and all connections as per the setup instructions.
  2. Heating: Place the fermentation barrel on a suitable heat source. The thickened stainless steel bottom is compatible with various heating methods, including wood fire, gas stoves, and ceramic/electric coil stoves.
  3. Monitor Temperature: Continuously monitor the temperature using the dual display thermometer on the lid. The thermometer displays temperatures in both Celsius (0°C to 200°C) and Fahrenheit (50°F to 400°F). Maintain the desired temperature range for your distillation process.
  4. Activate Cooling System: Ensure the water pump is submerged in a bucket of cold water, preferably with plenty of ice. Turn on the water pump to initiate water circulation through the cooling pot's stainless steel corrugated coils. This facilitates effective condensation of steam.
  5. Collect Distillate: As steam condenses in the cooling coils, the distilled liquid will exit through the liquor outlet tube. Collect the distillate in a clean container.
  6. Cooling Efficiency: For faster cooling rates and to avoid frequent water changes, it is highly recommended to use a large capacity bucket for the cooling water and to add ample ice.
  7. Completion: Continue distillation until the desired volume or purity is achieved. Turn off the heat source and water pump.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and hygiene of your distiller:

  • Cleaning After Use: After each distillation, allow the unit to cool completely. Disassemble the components and thoroughly clean all parts that came into contact with the liquid or steam. Use warm soapy water and a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Drying: Ensure all components are completely dry before reassembly or storage to prevent water spots or corrosion.
  • Storage: Store the distiller in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Inspect Seals and Tubes: Periodically inspect silicone seals and tubes for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace them if necessary to maintain a leak-proof system.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Steam LeakageLoose connections, damaged seals, or improperly installed plugs.Ensure all connections are tightened with a wrench. Check and replace any worn or damaged silicone seals or leak-proof plugs.
Insufficient Condensation / Low YieldInadequate cooling water temperature or flow, or insufficient heat.Ensure the cooling water is very cold, add more ice to the water reservoir. Verify the water pump is functioning correctly and tubes are not kinked. Increase heat source if necessary, while monitoring temperature.
No Gas Release from Exhaust ValveValve clogged or improperly installed.Check if the one-way exhaust valve is correctly installed and not obstructed. Ensure there is water in the valve.
Thermometer MalfunctionSensor issue or damage.Ensure the thermometer is securely seated. If issues persist, contact customer support.
