2. Safety Information

Your safety and the safety of others are paramount. Always follow these basic safety precautions when using your charcoal grill:

  • Outdoor Use Only: This grill is designed for outdoor use in a well-ventilated area. Never use it indoors, in a garage, or under any enclosed space.
  • Clearance: Maintain a minimum distance of 10 feet (3 meters) from combustible materials such, as wooden decks, fences, or overhanging branches.
  • Stable Surface: Always place the grill on a hard, level, non-combustible surface.
  • Supervision: Never leave a lit grill unattended. Keep children and pets away from the grill at all times.
  • Charcoal Safety: Use only charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal. Never use gasoline, kerosene, or alcohol to light charcoal, as this can cause an explosion. Use a charcoal chimney starter or approved charcoal lighter fluid sparingly.
  • Hot Surfaces: The grill surfaces become extremely hot during use. Use heat-resistant gloves or mitts when handling hot components.
  • Ash Disposal: Allow charcoal to cool completely before disposing of ashes. Never dispose of hot ashes in combustible containers.
  • Fire Extinguisher: Keep a fire extinguisher or a bucket of sand readily available in case of a fire.

4. Setup and Assembly

The Thctvous Hibachi Grill requires minimal assembly.

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Position Inner Grate: Place the smaller, inner charcoal grate at the bottom of the cast iron grill body. This grate holds the charcoal.
  3. Position Top Grate: Place the larger, top cooking grate over the inner charcoal grate. This is where food will be cooked.
  4. Handle Attachment: Ensure the metal handle is securely attached to the grill body. The spring grip should be centered on the handle for comfortable lifting.
  5. Initial Burn-Off: Before first use, it is recommended to perform an initial burn-off. Load a small amount of charcoal, light it, and let it burn for about 30 minutes to burn off any manufacturing residues. Allow the grill to cool completely afterward.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Charcoal Loading and Lighting

  1. Ensure the grill is on a stable, heat-resistant surface outdoors.
  2. Place the desired amount of charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal onto the inner charcoal grate. Do not overfill.
  3. Use a charcoal chimney starter for the safest and most efficient lighting. Alternatively, arrange charcoal in a pyramid shape and apply a small amount of approved lighter fluid. Allow the fluid to soak for a minute, then light carefully.
  4. Wait until the charcoal is covered with a light gray ash, indicating it is ready for cooking. This typically takes 15-25 minutes.

5.2. Heat Control

The Thctvous Hibachi Grill features a built-in vent for temperature control.

  • Opening the Vent: Fully open the vent to increase airflow to the charcoal, resulting in higher temperatures.
  • Closing the Vent: Partially or fully close the vent to reduce airflow, which will lower the temperature and extend the burn time of the charcoal.
  • Adjust the vent gradually and observe the charcoal temperature to achieve desired cooking heat.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your grill.

  1. Cool Down: Always allow the grill to cool completely before attempting to clean it.
  2. Remove Grates: Carefully remove the top cooking grate and the inner charcoal grate.
  3. Ash Disposal: Once cooled, empty the ashes from the grill body and dispose of them in a non-combustible container.
  4. Clean Grates: Scrape off any food residue from the cooking grate using a grill brush. Wash both grates with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Dry immediately to prevent rust.
  5. Clean Grill Body: Wipe down the enameled cast iron grill body with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or steel wool, as they can damage the enamel coating.
  6. Storage: Ensure all parts are completely dry before storing. Store the grill in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Difficulty Lighting Charcoal: Ensure charcoal is dry. Use a chimney starter or sufficient lighter fluid. Ensure adequate airflow by keeping the vent open.
  • Uneven Heat: Distribute charcoal evenly on the inner grate. Adjust the vent to control airflow.
  • Food Sticking to Grate: Ensure the cooking grate is clean and lightly oiled before placing food. Allow the grill to reach proper cooking temperature before adding food.
  • Smoke Issues: Excessive smoke can occur if there is too much fat dripping onto the coals. Trim excess fat from meats. Ensure proper airflow.
