1. Overview

The Garmin Speed Sensor 2 is a wireless sensor designed to accurately monitor your speed and distance while cycling. 2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the Garmin Speed Sensor 2 from its packaging. Verify that all components, including the sensor unit and the mounting strap, are present and undamaged.

2.2 Battery Installation

The Speed Sensor 2 typically comes with a pre-installed CR2032 battery. If the battery needs to be installed or replaced, gently twist the battery cover counter-clockwise to open it. Insert the CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up. Replace the cover and twist clockwise until it is securely closed. The sensor will activate automatically.

2.3 Mounting the Sensor

The Speed Sensor 2 is designed to attach to the hub of either your bicycle's front or rear wheel. Follow these steps for installation:

1. Select a wheel hub for mounting. Ensure the area is clean and free from obstructions.
2. Place the sensor on the center of the wheel hub.
3. Secure the sensor to the hub using the provided rubber mounting strap. Loop the strap around the hub and hook it onto the sensor's attachment points. Ensure the sensor is firmly held in place and does not interfere with any moving parts of the wheel or fork/frame.

2.4 Wheel Size Configuration

For accurate speed and distance readings, you must configure your wheel size. This can be done in two ways:

• Garmin Connect App: Pair your sensor with the Garmin Connect mobile application and manually enter your wheel size.
• Garmin Edge Cycling Computer/Compatible Device: Pair the sensor with your Garmin Edge device. The device may offer an auto-calibration feature or allow manual entry of the wheel size. Refer to your specific device's manual for detailed instructions.

Once the wheel size is set, the sensor will provide accurate data even if your paired device is not present during a ride.

3. Operating the Sensor

3.1 Pairing with Devices

1. Ensure the sensor is awake by spinning the wheel a few times.

4.1 Battery Replacement

The Speed Sensor 2 uses a CR2032 coin cell battery. When the battery is low, your paired device may display a low battery warning. To replace the battery:

1. Remove the sensor from your bicycle wheel hub.
2. Gently twist the battery cover counter-clockwise to open it.
3. Remove the old CR2032 battery.
4. Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
5. Replace the battery cover and twist clockwise until it is securely closed. Ensure the O-ring seal is properly seated to maintain water resistance.

4.2 Cleaning and Storage

Clean the sensor regularly with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. When not in use for extended periods, store the sensor in a cool, dry place. Removing the battery during long-term storage can help prolong battery life.

5. Troubleshooting

• Sensor Not Pairing:
  • Ensure the sensor is awake by spinning the wheel.
  • Check that the battery is correctly installed and not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • Verify that your receiving device (e.g., Garmin Edge, smartphone) has ANT+ or Bluetooth LE enabled and is searching for sensors.
  • Move the sensor closer to the receiving device during the pairing process.
• Inaccurate Speed/Distance Readings:
  • Confirm that the correct wheel size is configured in your paired device or Garmin Connect app.
  • Ensure the sensor is securely mounted on the wheel hub and not slipping.
  • Check for any physical obstructions that might interfere with the sensor's operation.
• Intermittent Connectivity:
  • Ensure there are no strong electromagnetic interferences nearby.
  • Check the battery level of the sensor.
  • Update the firmware of your Garmin device if an update is available.
