4.2 Initial Preparation
- Fueling: Fill the fuel tank with fresh gasoline. The fuel capacity is approximately 6.6 Liters (1.6 gallons).
- Oil Levels: Check engine oil and hydraulic fluid levels. Ensure they are at the recommended marks. Refer to the engine manual for specific oil types and capacities.
- Battery Connection: Ensure the battery is properly connected and charged. If the battery is drained upon arrival, it may require jump-starting.
- Controls Check: Familiarize yourself with the controls in the cab. Ensure all levers and switches move freely and return to their neutral positions.
- Attachment Installation (if applicable): If attachments like the quick hitch or thumb are not pre-installed, follow the specific instructions provided with those accessories for secure mounting. The quick-change system allows for tool-free attachment changes.
5. Operating Instructions
The HY12F Mini Excavator features a user-friendly driving console and pilot control system for efficient operation.

5.1 Starting the Engine
- Ensure the safety lever is in the locked position.
- Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.
- Turn the ignition key to the "START" position. Release once the engine starts.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before beginning operation.
5.2 Pilot Control System
The pilot control system provides smooth and precise control. Use the joysticks to manipulate the boom, stick, and bucket. The sensitivity of the joysticks allows for fine adjustments, making it suitable for delicate tasks and narrow spaces.

5.3 Swing Function
To utilize the swing function, operate the designated control. This allows the upper structure to rotate, enabling the boom, stick, and bucket to reach areas perpendicular to the machine's longitudinal axis. This is particularly useful for working efficiently in tight spaces, such as alongside buildings or between closely-spaced obstacles.

Figure 6: The swing arm function allows the excavator arm to move to a precise location without shifting the machine's base.
5.4 Using the Excavator Thumb and Quick Hitch
The excavator thumb works in conjunction with the bucket to grasp and move materials like rocks, logs, and debris. The manual quick hitch facilitates fast and secure changes of attachments without the need for additional tools.
5.5 Operating the Dozer Blade
Use the dozer blade for leveling ground, backfilling trenches, or stabilizing the excavator during digging operations. Ensure the blade is properly positioned before and during use.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your HY12F Mini Excavator.
6.1 Daily Checks
- Check engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and fuel levels.
- Inspect tracks for damage or excessive wear.
- Check for any hydraulic leaks around hoses and cylinders.
- Ensure all pins and fasteners are secure.
- Clean the machine, especially the cab and engine compartment.
6.2 Scheduled Maintenance
- Engine: Follow the Briggs & Stratton engine manual for specific service intervals, including oil changes, air filter cleaning/replacement, and spark plug inspection.
- Hydraulic System: Regularly check hydraulic fluid quality and replace filters as recommended. The hydraulic cooler helps maintain fluid integrity.
- Lubrication: Grease all pivot points and moving parts regularly to reduce wear.
- Tracks: Inspect track tension and adjust as needed.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your mini excavator.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine does not start | Low fuel, dead battery, clogged fuel filter, safety lever engaged. | Check fuel level, charge/jump-start battery, inspect/replace fuel filter, disengage safety lever. |
| Hydraulic functions are slow or weak | Low hydraulic fluid, clogged hydraulic filter, hydraulic pump issue, high hydraulic oil temperature. | Check fluid level and add if necessary, replace hydraulic filter, inspect pump, ensure hydraulic cooler is functioning. |
| Excessive engine noise or vibration | Loose components, engine malfunction, low oil. | Inspect for loose parts, check engine oil, consult a qualified technician if problem persists. |
| Fumes in the cab | Exhaust leak, inadequate ventilation, engine running rich. | Inspect exhaust system for leaks, ensure proper cab sealing, consider adding ventilation if necessary. |
