2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection

2.2 Battery Installation

The GODOX V100S is powered by a high-performance lithium battery. To install, align the battery according to the indicated direction and insert it into the battery compartment until it clicks into place.

2.3 Detachable Sub Flash (SU-1) Installation

The SU-1 sub flash can be easily attached to the main unit. Align the sub flash with the designated slot and press firmly until it clicks securely into place.

2.4 Mounting the Flash on Camera

To mount the GODOX V100S on your camera, press the hot shoe lock button, insert the flash into the camera's hot shoe, and rotate to the right to lock it securely.

2.5 Firmware Upgrade

3. Operating the Flash

3.1 Power On/Off

To power on the flash, press the power button until the icon appears, then rotate the dial clockwise to unlock and turn on. To power off, reverse the process or long-press the power button.

3.2 Touchscreen Control

The GODOX V100S features an intuitive touchscreen for easy navigation and setting adjustments. Swipe right for mode selection and left to return. Swipe down for additional functions and up to return to the main screen.

3.3 Flash Modes (Manual, TTL)

Tap the [Mode] button on the touchscreen to switch between TTL (Through-The-Lens) and Manual (M) modes. In Manual mode, you can precisely adjust flash power using the +/- icons or by pulling the progress bar. In TTL mode, the flash automatically adjusts power, and you can use the progress bar for quick FEC (Flash Exposure Compensation) adjustments.

3.4 Sub Flash SU-1 Adjustment

Tap the [SUB] option on the screen to adjust the power of the detachable SU-1 sub flash. You can also toggle it on or off from this menu.

3.5 Manual Zoom

Tap the [Zoom] option to enter the flash focal length settings. Rotate and press the dial to select the desired flash focal length (e.g., 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 80mm, 105mm).

3.6 Wireless Operation (Sender & Receiver Modes)

The GODOX V100S features a built-in 2.4G Wireless X System, allowing it to function as both a master (Sender) and receiver unit. Easily pair with other Godox flash devices that support wireless sync.

To set up as a Sender, select "Sender" mode. You can long-press the group setting to switch between Manual flash, TTL auto flash, or OFF for each group. Adjust flash power or FEC using the +/- icons or progress bar.

To set up as a Receiver, select "Receiver" mode. Ensure the channel and ID settings match your sender unit. You can tap to switch modes and select focal length for the receiver unit. Tap to enter group settings and select the group (A, B, C, D, E).

3.7 Sync Mode (Front Curtain, High-Speed, Rear Curtain)

The GODOX V100S supports various sync modes including Front Curtain Sync, High-Speed Sync (HSS), and Rear Curtain Sync. These can be selected from the "Other Functions" menu on the touchscreen.

3.8 AF Assist Beam

The AF Assist Beam helps the camera achieve focus in low-light conditions. It can be toggled on or off from the "Other Functions" menu.

3.9 Beeper

The beeper provides audible feedback for flash readiness and other operations. You can enable or disable it in the "Other Functions" menu.

3.13 Global Shutter Compatibility

The GODOX V100S is compatible with global shutter cameras like the Sony A9 III. For optimal performance, especially with global shutter, it is recommended to use Manual mode (M) and adjust the flash timing (ADJ) for maximum energy efficiency. When used as a camera-mounted light, the recommended flash duration for the camera's ADJ setting is typically between 120 and 160 microseconds. For off-camera flash setups, the recommended ADJ flash duration range is 560-660 microseconds.
