4. Setup

4.1 Assembly

  1. Attach the Container: Securely screw the 1400ml container onto the spray gun body. Ensure it is tightly fastened to prevent leaks.
  2. Select Nozzle Size: Choose the appropriate brass nozzle (1.0mm to 2.5mm) based on the paint type and desired spray pattern. Insert the sealing ring into the nozzle for a sealed state.
  3. Install Nozzle: Place the selected nozzle onto the spray gun and tighten the nozzle fixing sleeve clockwise.

4.2 Paint Preparation and Viscosity Check

Proper paint viscosity is crucial for optimal spraying. Use the included viscosity cup to test your paint:

  1. Completely immerse the viscosity cup in the paint for 25-50 seconds.
  2. Lift the cup and start timing how long it takes for the paint to drain completely.
  3. Refer to the table below for recommended flow durations for different materials. If the paint drains too slowly, add the corresponding thinner and re-test until the correct viscosity is achieved.
  4. Filter the diluted paint through a paper funnel into the sprayer's container to remove any particles.
Recommended Flow Durations (DIN-seconds)
MaterialRecommended Flow Duration
Solvent-based paints15-55 seconds
Primers25-55 seconds
PicklingNo need to dilute
2-component paints20-55 seconds
Varnishes15-40 seconds
Waterborne paints20-40 seconds
Wood preservativesNo need to dilute

Note: Latex paint often requires high dilution and is generally not recommended for this product.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Adjusting Spray Patterns and Flow

The PICKITOLES EPQ-X offers precision control for various applications:

  • Adjustable Spray Patterns: Rotate the air cap to switch between three patterns: horizontal (90°), vertical (180°), and circular (45°). Choose the appropriate pattern for your project.
  • Adjustable Flow Control: Use the pressure regulation knob to adjust the material flow rate. Rotate clockwise for a higher flow rate and counter-clockwise for a smaller flow rate.

5.2 Spraying Technique

For best results, maintain a consistent distance of approximately 15-20cm from the surface. Apply thin, even coats with overlapping passes. Avoid applying too much paint at once to prevent sagging or uneven coating.

6. Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular cleaning is essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your paint sprayer and to prevent paint blockage.

  1. Separate Components: Disconnect the front half body from the motor. Ensure the motor body does not come into contact with water or liquid.
  2. Drain Residual Paint: Drain any remaining paint from the feed pipe and container.
  3. Disassemble Nozzle Section: Remove the lock nut, air cap, and nozzle. Place these parts, along with the feed pipe, into a container with cleaning agent (or water for water-based paints) for soaking.
  4. Clean Components: Use the provided cleaning brush and needle to thoroughly clean the air inlet, inner wall of the feed pipe, and all nozzle holes. Wipe the O-ring of the nozzle with a cloth only.
  5. Rinse: Rinse all cleaned parts with flowing water until all paint residue is removed.
  6. Dry and Reassemble: Dry all parts completely before reassembling the sprayer.
  7. Clear the Pipe: After reassembly, fill the container with clear water and spray for 20 seconds to ensure the internal pipe is clear.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your paint sprayer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Equipment Not Operating Normally:
    • Check for air outflow and motor operation. If the motor is not operating, liquid may have leaked into it during previous cleaning, causing damage. Contact customer service if this occurs.
  • Air Outflow Only, No Paint Spraying:
    • Check if the sealing ring at the brass nozzle is correctly installed.
    • Ensure the feed pipe is properly aligned with the inlet and the paint pot is securely fastened.
  • Poor Spraying Effect or Nozzle Blockage:
    • The paint viscosity may be too high. Dilute the paint further and re-test using the viscosity cup.
    • Particles in the paint can cause blockage. Always filter paint through a paper funnel before use.
  • Paint Sagging or Uneven Coating:
    • The paint viscosity may be too low (over-thinned). Adjust dilution or use less thinner.
    • Apply thin coats with multiple passes instead of one thick coat.
  • Spray Gun Operated Unsteadily / Insufficient Paint Volume:
    • Ensure there is sufficient paint volume in the container to allow the feed pipe to draw paint normally.
