Important Safety Information

WARNING:

  • Always install and use the gate as directed to prevent serious injury or death.
  • Never use this gate at the top of stairs without hardware mounting.
  • This gate is intended for use with children from 6 to 24 months.
  • Never leave children unattended.
  • Stop using the gate when a child can climb over it or dislodge it.
  • Regularly check all fasteners to ensure they are tight and secure.
  • Do not use if any components are missing or damaged.

The StepSafe Auto Close Baby Gate is JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association) and ASTM certified, ensuring it meets rigorous safety standards. This gate features an extra-low threshold bar of just 0.25 inches high, significantly reducing tripping hazards compared to other gates.

Parts List

Before beginning assembly, ensure all parts are present:

  • Main Gate Frame
  • Extension Panels (if included)
  • Pressure Mount Bolts (4)
  • Wall Cups (4)
  • Adhesive Pads (4)
  • Hardware Mount Screws (4)
  • Swing Control Stopper
  • Instruction Manual

Setup and Installation

The gate can be installed using two methods: Pressure Mount or Hardware Mount.

1. Pressure Mount Installation (For doorways and hallways, not for top of stairs)

  1. Unpack all components and identify the main gate frame and any extension panels.
  2. Insert the pressure mount bolts into the four corners of the gate frame.
  3. Place the gate in the desired opening. Ensure the gate is level and centered.
  4. Rotate the adjustment wheels on the pressure mount bolts until the gate is snug in the opening.
  5. Tighten the bolts evenly until the gate is securely held in place. The gap between the gate frame and the wall should be minimal.
  6. Test the gate's stability by pushing and pulling on it. It should not move.

2. Hardware Mount Installation (Recommended for top of stairs, or for added security)

  1. Determine the desired location for the gate.
  2. Attach the wall cups to the wall using the provided screws. Ensure they are level and at the correct height for the gate.
  3. Insert the pressure mount bolts into the gate frame and place the gate into the wall cups.
  4. Tighten the bolts evenly until the gate is securely mounted.
  5. Test the gate's stability.

Operating the Gate

Opening the Gate

The gate features a two-step locking handle designed for adult operation with one hand. The wide 18-inch door provides ample space for walking through.

  1. Locate the latch mechanism on the top bar of the gate.
  2. Slide the button or lever on the latch.
  3. Lift the gate door slightly to disengage the lock.
  4. Swing the gate door open in the desired direction.

Auto-Close and Hold-Open Features

The gate is equipped with a gravity-fed hinge that automatically closes the gate when released. For situations where you need the gate to remain open:

  • To activate the hold-open feature, push the gate door past 90 degrees. It will remain open until manually closed or gently pushed back into the auto-close range.
  • To allow the gate to auto-close, simply release the gate door from any angle less than 90 degrees, and it will swing shut and latch automatically.

Swing Control Stopper

The included swing control stopper allows you to restrict the gate door from swinging in one direction, which can be useful in certain installations (e.g., at the top of stairs to prevent swinging over the stairs).

  • Install the stopper according to the instructions provided with the stopper accessory.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a mild soap and damp cloth to clean the gate. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the gate for loose parts, damage, or wear. Ensure all mounting hardware is secure.
  • Storage: If storing the gate, disassemble it carefully and keep all parts together in a dry, safe place.
