3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Ensure the flash is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the side of the flash unit.
  3. Slide the battery door open and insert the provided 7.2V/2600mAh Li-ion battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Close the battery door securely.
  5. To charge, connect the battery to the included charger and plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging indicator will show the charging status. A full charge takes approximately 3.5 hours.

3.2. Mounting to Camera

  1. Slide the flash's hot-shoe foot into your Nikon camera's hot-shoe mount.
  2. Push the quick lock hot-shoe clamp forward to secure the flash in place. Ensure it is firmly attached to prevent accidental detachment.

3.3. Attaching the Red Ring (Optional)

The red ring is a plastic accessory that needs to be installed by the user. Refer to the small instruction card included in the package for detailed steps on how to attach it.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Power On/Off

To power on the flash, slide the ON/OFF switch located on the control panel. To power off, slide the switch back to the OFF position.

4.2. Basic Flash Modes

  • TTL Autoflash Mode: The flash automatically adjusts its output for correct exposure.
  • Manual Flash Mode: Allows you to manually set the flash power output from 1/256 to 1/1 (full power) in 1/3 stop increments.
  • Multi Flash Mode: Fires a series of rapid flashes to capture multiple movements of a subject in a single photograph.

4.3. Advanced Functions

  • High-Speed Sync (HSS): Enables flash synchronization with shutter speeds up to 1/8000s, allowing for wider apertures in bright conditions.
  • Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC): Adjusts the flash output to fine-tune exposure.
  • Second Curtain Sync: Fires the flash just before the second curtain closes, creating a light trail behind moving subjects.
  • Modeling Lamp: Press the dedicated button to activate the 10-level LED modeling lamp, useful for previewing light effects or as a continuous light source in dark environments.

4.4. Wireless Control (2.4G X System)

The V1-NU can function as a master or slave unit within the Godox 2.4G wireless X system. Use the control panel to set the mode (Master/Slave/Off), channel (1-32), and ID (01-99) to match your other Godox wireless devices. It supports 5 controllable slave groups (A, B, C, D, E).

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use the provided HolaFoto Cleaning Cloth or a soft, dry cloth to clean the flash unit. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the flash in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the protection bag for safe transport and storage.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, fully charge the Li-ion battery before extended storage and recharge it every 3-6 months if not in use.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Godox official website for firmware updates. Use the USB port on the flash to perform updates as instructed.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Flash Not Firing:
    • Check if the flash is securely mounted to the camera's hot-shoe.
    • Ensure the battery is charged and correctly inserted.
    • Verify the flash is powered on.
    • Check camera and flash settings for compatibility (e.g., sync mode, wireless settings).
  • Inconsistent Flash Output:
    • Ensure the battery has sufficient charge.
    • Check for obstructions between the flash and the subject.
    • In wireless mode, verify that the master and slave units are on the same channel and ID.
  • Overheating:
    • Continuous high-power flashes can cause the unit to overheat. Allow the flash to cool down if an overheating warning appears.
    • Reduce flash power or increase recycle time between shots.
