Key Features:

  • Automatic Antenna Tuning: Quickly matches antenna impedance for optimal performance.
  • Power Handling: Supports up to 100W continuous operation (120W measurable peak).
  • Built-in Battery: Integrated 1800mAh lithium battery for portable use.
  • USB-C Charging: Convenient 5V Type-C USB charging port.
  • Compact Design: Durable metal casing for reliability.

2. Setup and Connections

Before operating your ATU-100, ensure it is adequately charged and properly connected to your radio and antenna system.

Charging the Device:

  • Locate the Type-C USB charging port on the rear of the unit.
  • Connect the supplied Type-C cable to the tuner and a standard 5V USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port).
  • The charging indicator (if present) will show charging status. Allow sufficient time for a full charge before initial use.

  1. Connect your antenna's coaxial cable to the ANT connector on the rear of the ATU-100.
  2. Connect a coaxial cable from your radio's antenna output to the TX connector on the rear of the ATU-100.
  3. For optimal performance and safety, connect a good RF ground to the GND terminal.
  4. Ensure all connections are secure.

3. Operating Instructions

The ATU-100 is designed for straightforward operation. Familiarize yourself with the front panel controls:

  • OFF/ON: Powers the unit on or off.
  • AUTO: Initiates an automatic tuning cycle.
  • BYP: Engages bypass mode, allowing RF to pass through without tuning.
  • TUNE: Initiates a manual tuning cycle or fine-tunes.

Basic Tuning Procedure:

  1. Power on the ATU-100 using the OFF/ON button. The display will illuminate.
  2. Set your radio to the desired frequency and a low power output (e.g., 5-10W). The minimum power required to start tuning is 5W.
  3. Press the AUTO button. The tuner will begin an automatic tuning cycle, adjusting inductance (L) and capacitance (C) to achieve the lowest possible SWR.
  4. During tuning, the display will show real-time Power (PWR), Standing Wave Ratio (SWR), Inductance (L), and Capacitance (C) values.
  5. Once tuning is complete, the display will show the final SWR. An SWR close to 1.0:1 indicates a good match.
  6. If the automatic tune does not achieve a satisfactory SWR, you may try pressing TUNE again or manually adjust your antenna system.
  7. To bypass the tuner, press the BYP button. This is useful when your antenna is already resonant or for testing purposes.

Note: For optimal tuning, transmit a continuous carrier (e.g., FM, RTTY, or a tune function on your radio) during the tuning process. Avoid transmitting high power until a good SWR is achieved.

4. Maintenance

The ATU-100 is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance. Following these guidelines will help ensure its longevity:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the tuner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: If storing for extended periods, charge the built-in lithium battery periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months) to maintain its health.
  • Connections: Periodically check all coaxial and ground connections for tightness and corrosion.
  • Avoid Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain, splashes, or high humidity.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ATU-100, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Unit does not power on:
    • Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the Type-C USB cable and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes.
    • Verify the power button is fully pressed.
  • Tuner does not achieve low SWR:
    • Check all coaxial cable connections between the radio, tuner, and antenna. Ensure they are secure and not damaged.
    • Verify your radio is transmitting at least 5W of power during the tuning cycle.
    • Ensure your antenna system is not severely mismatched or damaged. The tuner has limits to what it can match.
    • Try pressing the AUTO button multiple times or manually initiate tuning with the TUNE button.
    • Ensure a proper RF ground is connected.
  • Display is blank or erratic:
    • Recharge the battery.
    • Power cycle the unit (turn off, then on again).
  • Unit gets warm during operation:
    • This is normal during high-power tuning or extended use. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit. If it becomes excessively hot, reduce transmit power or allow it to cool down.

If problems persist after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support.
