Operating Instructions
1. Powering On and Pre-heating
- Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Turn on the main power switch. The machine will begin to heat up.
- Allow the machine to pre-heat for at least 15-20 minutes to ensure the E61 brew head and boiler reach optimal temperature for consistent extraction. The temperature indicator and PID display will show the heating progress.
2. Brewing Espresso
- Grind fresh coffee beans to an espresso-fine consistency.
- Dose the portafilter with the desired amount of ground coffee (e.g., 7-8g for a single shot, 14-16g for a double shot).
- Tamp the coffee evenly with firm pressure. Wipe any loose grounds from the rim of the portafilter.
- Insert the portafilter into the E61 brew head and lock it into place.
- Place your espresso cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
- Activate the brew lever to start the extraction. The machine allows for custom pre-soak time; adjust as desired for optimal flavor.
- Monitor the pressure gauge during extraction; ideal pressure is typically around 9-10 bar.
- Stop the extraction once the desired volume is reached (e.g., 25-30ml for a single shot in 25-30 seconds).

3. Frothing Milk
- Ensure the machine is at steaming temperature.
- Purge the steam wand briefly to release any condensed water.
- Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of cold milk in a stainless steel pitcher.
- Open the steam valve fully. Stretch the milk by keeping the tip near the surface to incorporate air, then submerge it deeper to create a swirling vortex for texturing.
- Close the steam valve when the milk reaches the desired temperature and texture.
- Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth and purge it again to prevent milk residue buildup.
4. Hot Water Dispensing
- Place a cup under the hot water nozzle.
- Open the hot water valve to dispense hot water.
- Close the valve when the desired amount of water is dispensed.
Maintenance
Daily Cleaning
- Portafilter and Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse thoroughly under hot water.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth and purge it to clear any milk residue.
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
- Brew Head: Perform a backflush with a blind filter and espresso machine cleaner as recommended by the cleaner's instructions.
- Exterior: Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.
Regular Maintenance
- Water Tank: Clean the water tank weekly with warm, soapy water to prevent mineral buildup.
- Descaling: Depending on water hardness and usage, descale the machine every 1-3 months using a commercial descaling solution designed for espresso machines. Follow the descaler's instructions carefully.
- Group Head Gasket and Shower Screen: Periodically inspect and replace the group head gasket and shower screen if they show signs of wear or cracking to ensure proper sealing and water distribution.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Machine does not power on | No power supply; power switch off; faulty cord/plug | Check power outlet and plug; ensure power switch is ON; contact service if cord/plug is damaged. |
| No water flow from brew head | Empty water tank; pump not primed; clogged brew head | Fill water tank; run hot water cycle to prime pump; clean brew head and shower screen. |
| Weak or watery espresso | Coffee too coarse; insufficient coffee dose; uneven tamping; low brew temperature | Grind coffee finer; increase coffee dose; tamp evenly and firmly; allow machine to pre-heat longer or adjust PID temperature. |
| No steam from steam wand | Machine not at steaming temperature; steam wand clogged | Allow machine to reach steaming temperature; clean steam wand hole with a pin. |
| Water leaking from machine | Loose water tank; damaged gasket; overfilled drip tray | Ensure water tank is seated correctly; inspect and replace gaskets if necessary; empty drip tray. |
