Image 4.1: Visual guide illustrating the 8 steps for preparing coffee, from filling the water tank to frothing milk.

  1. Fill Water Tank: Ensure the water tank is filled with fresh, cold water (Max 1.5L / 1.6Qt).
  2. Preheat: Press the Power Switch to turn on the machine. Allow it to preheat for approximately 30 seconds until the indicator light signals readiness. The visual thermometer will also show temperature rising.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the filter basket into the portafilter. Add desired amount of finely ground espresso coffee into the filter basket. Tamp the coffee grounds evenly.
  4. Install Portafilter: Attach the portafilter to the brewing head by aligning it and twisting it firmly to the right until locked in place.
  5. Place Cup: Position one or two espresso cups on the drip tray beneath the portafilter spouts.
  6. Brew Espresso: Press the Coffee Switch. The machine will begin extracting espresso. You can choose between single or double serve options if available, or stop manually.
  7. Extraction Complete: Once the desired amount of espresso is brewed, press the Coffee Switch again to stop the flow.

4.2 Milk Frothing System

The automatic milk frothing system allows for easy preparation of lattes and cappuccinos.

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Activate Steam: Press the Steam Switch to activate the steam function. Wait for the machine to reach steaming temperature (indicated by the visual thermometer or indicator light).
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Briefly turn the Steam/Hot Water Knob to release any condensed water from the steam wand into an empty cup. Close the knob.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Slowly turn the Steam/Hot Water Knob to release steam. Move the pitcher up and down gently to create foam.
  5. Stop Steaming: Once the milk reaches the desired temperature and consistency, turn the Steam/Hot Water Knob off, then press the Steam Switch to deactivate.
  6. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying. Briefly purge steam again to clear any internal milk.

5. Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffee machine.

5.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Drip Tray: Remove and empty the drip tray after each use. Wash with warm soapy water, rinse, and dry.
  • Water Tank: Empty and rinse the water tank daily. Refill with fresh water for each use.
  • Portafilter and Filter Basket: After brewing, remove the portafilter and discard used coffee grounds. Rinse the portafilter and filter basket under running water. Use a brush to remove any stubborn residue.
  • Steam Wand: As mentioned in the operating instructions, clean the steam wand immediately after each use.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scourers.

5.2 Descaling

Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in the machine, affecting performance and taste. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions, or use a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio).
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the portafilter and steam wand.
  4. Turn on the machine and run about half of the solution through the coffee brewing cycle.
  5. Then, run the remaining half of the solution through the steam wand.
  6. Turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Empty the water tank and rinse it thoroughly.
  8. Refill the water tank with fresh water and run several full tanks of clean water through both the brewing head and steam wand to rinse out any descaling solution residue.
