2.2 Assembly Steps

  1. Attach the search coil to the lower rod using the provided bolt and washer. Ensure it is securely fastened but allows for slight angle adjustment.
  2. Connect the lower rod to the middle rod, ensuring the spring clips engage properly.
  3. Slide the control unit onto the upper rod and secure it.
  4. Attach the armrest to the upper rod. Adjust the length of the rod (28" to 55") for comfortable use by pressing the spring clips and sliding the sections.
  5. Wrap the coil cable neatly around the rod, securing it with any provided clips, and plug it into the control unit's designated port.

2.3 Battery Installation and Charging

The DD60 uses a rechargeable 9V battery (included). Locate the battery compartment on the control unit. Insert the 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity. Charge the battery using the provided USB-C cable before first use. A full charge typically provides approximately 4 hours of typical operation.

3.2 Powering On/Off

  • To power on: Press and hold the power button until the display illuminates.
  • To power off: Press and hold the power button until the unit powers down.

3.3 Operating Modes

The DD60 offers 5 functional modes to suit different detection environments and target types:

  • All Metal Mode (A-M): Detects all types of metal without discrimination. Ideal for general searching or when the target material is unknown.
  • Coin Mode: Optimized for detecting coins, filtering out common junk metals.
  • Relic Mode: Designed to find older, often corroded, metallic artifacts.
  • Custom Mode: Allows the user to set specific discrimination patterns to ignore unwanted metals.
  • Jewelry Mode: Focuses on detecting precious metals like gold and silver jewelry.

3.4 Sensitivity Control

The detector features 7 sensitivity levels. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also increase interference. For typical use, it is recommended to set the sensitivity to level 5 to balance depth and stability.

3.5 Pinpoint Function

Use the pinpoint function to accurately locate the exact position of a detected target before digging.

3.6 Detection Depth and Reach

The DD60 is capable of detecting targets up to 5 feet deep, depending on target size and ground conditions. The adjustable rod extends from 28 inches to 55 inches, accommodating users up to 6.6 feet tall for comfortable operation.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your DD60 Metal Detector.

4.1 Cleaning

  • Search Coil: The Double-D search coil is waterproof (IP68 rated) and features an epoxy resin process. It can be rinsed with fresh water after use, especially in sandy or muddy conditions. Ensure the cable connection to the control unit remains dry.
  • Control Unit and Rod: Wipe the control unit and rod with a damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.

4.2 Battery Care and Storage

  • Recharge the 9V battery regularly, especially before extended storage.
  • Store the detector in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If storing for long periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage.

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your DD60 Metal Detector.

5.1 No Power / Unit Not Turning On

  • Check Battery: Ensure the 9V battery is correctly installed and fully charged. Recharge if necessary.
  • Connections: Verify all cable connections are secure, especially the coil cable to the control unit.

5.2 Erratic Signals / False Alarms

  • Sensitivity Too High: Reduce the sensitivity level. High sensitivity can pick up ground mineralization or electromagnetic interference.
  • Ground Conditions: In highly mineralized soil, false signals can occur. Try adjusting the sensitivity or using a different mode.
  • External Interference: Move away from power lines, cell phones, or other electronic devices that may cause interference.
  • Coil Cable: Ensure the coil cable is tightly wrapped around the rod and not swinging freely.

5.3 Poor Detection Depth

  • Sensitivity Setting: Increase the sensitivity level, but be mindful of potential false signals.
  • Target Size/Orientation: Very small or irregularly shaped targets may be harder to detect at depth.
  • Ground Conditions: Extremely dense or highly mineralized ground can reduce detection depth.

5.4 Assembly Difficulties

  • If parts do not fit smoothly, inspect for any obstructions or damage. Do not force components. Refer to the assembly diagram (Figure 2.1) for correct alignment.
