Setup and Installation
- Preparation: Ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected and all electrical systems are off. Gather necessary tools (wrenches, wire cutters/strippers, mounting hardware).
- Mounting Location: Choose a dry, secure, and easily accessible location for the switch. The switch comes with a mounting bracket for fixed installation. Ensure there is enough clearance for the handle to rotate.
- Mounting the Switch: Secure the switch using appropriate screws or bolts through the mounting holes on the bracket.
- Wiring: Connect the battery cable to one of the 10mm studs on the switch and the load cable (to the vehicle's electrical system) to the other stud. Ensure correct polarity if applicable (this switch is specified for negative polarity). Use the provided copper lugs for secure connections.
- Secure Connections: Tighten all nuts and bolts firmly to ensure good electrical contact and prevent arcing. Use the provided terminal covers to protect the connections.
- Final Check: Double-check all connections and ensure the switch is in the "OFF" position before reconnecting the main battery.
Operating Instructions
- Turning ON: Rotate the fixed handle clockwise until it clicks into the "ON" position. This connects the battery to your vehicle's electrical system.
- Turning OFF: Rotate the fixed handle counter-clockwise until it clicks into the "OFF" position. This disconnects the battery, isolating the electrical system.
- Lock-Out Plate: The switch features a lock-out plate with a padlock hole. When the switch is in the "OFF" position, you can insert a padlock (not included) through this hole to prevent accidental activation or unauthorized use.
Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the switch and its connections for any signs of corrosion, loose wiring, or damage.
- Cleaning: Keep the switch clean and free from dirt, dust, and moisture. Use a dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Terminal Care: If corrosion is present on the terminals, disconnect the battery, clean the terminals with a wire brush, and apply a suitable anti-corrosion grease.
- Handle Operation: Ensure the handle rotates smoothly between ON and OFF positions. Do not force the handle if it feels stiff.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power when switch is ON | Loose connections, corroded terminals, faulty switch, discharged battery. | Check all wiring connections for tightness. Clean any corroded terminals. Test battery voltage. If issues persist, the switch may need replacement. |
| Switch handle is stiff or stuck | Dirt/debris, internal damage. | Clean the switch exterior. Do not force the handle. If it remains stiff, the switch may be damaged and require replacement. |
| Switch gets hot during operation | Overload, loose connections, undersized wiring. | Ensure current draw does not exceed switch rating. Check for loose connections. Verify wiring gauge is appropriate for the current. |
