Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Sygonix Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector, model SY-6418204. Please read these instructions thoroughly before using the device to ensure safe and effective operation. This detector is designed to monitor CO levels and alert you to potentially dangerous concentrations.
Important Safety Information
- This CO detector is not a smoke detector and does not detect fire or smoke.
- Do not paint the detector. Paint can clog the sensor openings and interfere with the unit's ability to detect CO.
- Do not block or cover the ventilation openings on the detector.
- Test the detector weekly to ensure proper operation.
- Never ignore a CO alarm. Follow the instructions in the 'Alarm Conditions' section immediately.
- The detector's battery has a 5-year life. Replace the unit after 5 years or when the end-of-life indicator activates.

Setup and Installation
Battery Installation
The Sygonix CO Detector comes with an integrated 5-year battery. It is pre-installed and activated upon first use. No user installation of the battery is required initially.
Mounting Location
Proper placement is crucial for effective CO detection. Consider the following guidelines:
- Install at least one detector on each level of your home, especially near sleeping areas.
- For optimal detection, place the detector on a wall, approximately 1.5 meters (5 feet) from the floor.
- Avoid placing the detector in direct sunlight, near heating/cooling vents, or within 1 meter (3 feet) of fuel-burning appliances.
- Do not install in garages, kitchens, or bathrooms due to potential false alarms from vehicle exhaust, cooking fumes, or high humidity.
Mounting the Detector
- Select a suitable mounting location according to the guidelines above.
- Separate the mounting bracket from the detector by twisting it counter-clockwise.
- Hold the mounting bracket against the wall at your chosen location and mark the two screw holes.
- Drill two holes at the marked positions. Insert the provided wall plugs if mounting into drywall or plaster.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the wall using the provided screws.
- Align the detector with the mounting bracket and twist it clockwise until it locks securely into place.
Operating the Detector
Initial Power-On
Upon first installation or after a prolonged period of inactivity, the detector will perform a self-test. The display will show a countdown or a series of dashes, and the unit may emit a short beep. Once the self-test is complete, the display will show '0 ppm' (parts per million) and the green 'Power' indicator will illuminate, signifying normal operation.
Normal Operation
During normal operation, the digital display will show '0 ppm' if no CO is detected. The green 'Power' indicator light will flash periodically to confirm the unit is functioning correctly.
Alarm Conditions
If the detector senses dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, it will activate an alarm:
- The alarm will sound with a loud, pulsating siren.
- The digital display will show the detected CO concentration in ppm.
- The red 'Alarm' indicator light will flash rapidly.
- If connected to the app, a notification will be sent to your mobile device.
In case of an alarm:
- Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows.
- Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
- Do not re-enter the premises until the CO has dissipated and the alarm has stopped.
- Call emergency services or a qualified technician to investigate the source of the CO.
Testing the Detector
It is recommended to test your CO detector weekly. Press and hold the 'TEST' button on the front of the unit for approximately 3 seconds. The alarm will sound, the display will show a test pattern, and the red 'Alarm' indicator will flash. Release the button to stop the test. If the alarm does not sound during the test, refer to the 'Troubleshooting' section.
App Control
The Sygonix CO Detector supports app control for remote monitoring and notifications. To set up app control:
- Download the official Sygonix smart home app from your device's app store.
- Create an account or log in.
- Follow the in-app instructions to add a new device. This typically involves putting the detector into pairing mode (refer to the app for specific instructions, as this may involve pressing the test button multiple times or a specific sequence).
- Once paired, you can monitor the detector's status, receive alarm notifications, and view historical data directly from your smartphone.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Clean your CO detector regularly to prevent dust and debris from interfering with its operation. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use cleaning sprays, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Do not spray air fresheners or other aerosols near the detector.
Battery Life and Replacement
The detector is equipped with a sealed, long-life battery designed to last for 5 years. When the battery is nearing the end of its life, the detector will emit a low battery warning (a chirp every 30-60 seconds and the yellow 'Fault' indicator may flash). At this point, the entire unit must be replaced, as the battery is not user-replaceable. The detector also has an end-of-life indicator that will signal when the unit needs to be replaced after 5 years of operation, regardless of battery status.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Detector does not power on | Unit not properly activated or faulty. | Ensure the unit is correctly mounted and twisted into place. If still unresponsive, the unit may be faulty and require replacement. |
| Alarm sounds without visible CO source | Actual CO presence, detector malfunction, or interference. | Assume CO is present and evacuate immediately. After the area is clear, check for potential CO sources. If false alarm suspected, ensure proper placement away from fumes. If problem persists, replace the unit. |
| Yellow 'Fault' indicator flashes or chirps | Low battery or internal fault. | The battery is nearing end-of-life or there is an internal error. The unit needs to be replaced. |
| Detector does not respond to 'TEST' button | Unit malfunction. | Ensure the button is pressed firmly for 3 seconds. If still no response, the unit may be faulty and require replacement. |
