4. Installation Guide

This power steering filter is designed for the J86-1070 Power Steering Reservoir. Installation should be performed by a qualified technician or an individual with experience in automotive maintenance.

  1. Preparation: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool.
  2. Locate Reservoir: Identify the power steering fluid reservoir. Consult your vehicle's service manual for its exact location.
  3. Drain Fluid (if necessary): Depending on the system design, you may need to drain some power steering fluid to access the filter. Use a suitable container to collect the fluid.
  4. Remove Old Filter: Carefully remove the existing power steering filter from the reservoir. Note its orientation for correct installation of the new filter.
  5. Install New Filter: Insert the new BANGTE J37-1005 / J37-1007 filter into the power steering reservoir. Ensure it is seated correctly and securely.
  6. Refill Fluid: If fluid was drained, refill the reservoir with the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid to the appropriate level.
  7. Bleed System: Start the engine and slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed any air from the system. Check the fluid level again and top up if necessary.
  8. Inspect for Leaks: After installation, visually inspect for any fluid leaks around the filter and reservoir.

Its function is to remove contaminants from the power steering fluid, protecting the pump and other components from wear and ensuring smooth steering operation. Once installed, no further user interaction is required for its operation.

6. Maintenance and Replacement

Power steering filters are wear items and require periodic replacement. The replacement interval can vary based on vehicle usage, operating conditions, and manufacturer recommendations. It is generally advisable to replace the power steering filter whenever the power steering fluid is changed or flushed, or if signs of contamination are observed in the fluid.

  • Regularly check the power steering fluid level and condition.
  • Replace the filter using the installation steps outlined in Section 4.
  • Always use the correct type of power steering fluid specified by your vehicle manufacturer.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your power steering system after filter replacement, consider the following:

  • Noisy Power Steering: Check fluid level. Air in the system can cause noise; ensure proper bleeding.
  • Stiff Steering: Verify correct fluid level and ensure the filter is not obstructed or improperly installed.
  • Fluid Leaks: Re-check all connections and the filter seating for proper installation.

If problems persist, consult a professional automotive technician.
