7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your water heater.

7.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals.
  • Do not spray water directly onto the unit.

7.2 Descaling (Recommended Annually)

Depending on your water hardness, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up inside the tank and on the heating element, reducing efficiency. Descaling should be performed by a qualified technician.

  • Turn off power and water supply to the unit.
  • Drain the water heater completely.
  • Access the heating element and tank interior (this may require specialized tools and knowledge).
  • Carefully remove any scale buildup.
  • Reassemble and refill the unit before restoring power.

7.3 Pressure Relief Valve Check (If applicable)

If a pressure relief valve is installed, it should be checked periodically (e.g., every six months) to ensure it is not blocked and operates correctly. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific valve.

  • Reset the circuit breaker.
  • Contact a qualified technician.
Water not hot enough
  • Temperature setting too low
  • Excessive hot water demand
  • Scale buildup in tank
  • Increase temperature setting.
  • Allow more time for the unit to reheat.
  • Consider professional descaling.
Water leaking from unit
  • Loose plumbing connections
  • Faulty pressure relief valve
  • Damaged tank or components
  • Tighten connections (ensure water supply is off first).
  • Inspect and replace pressure relief valve if necessary.
  • Immediately turn off water and power, contact a qualified technician.
Unusual noises
  • Sediment buildup in tank
  • Air in the system
  • Consider professional descaling.
