5.2 Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S)
The D:S ratio for this thermometer is 12:1. This means that at a distance of 12 inches, the measurement spot size will be 1 inch. As the distance from the object increases, the measurement area also increases. For accurate readings, ensure the target area is larger than the spot size.

5.3 Emissivity Adjustment
Emissivity is the efficiency with which an object emits thermal energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate measurements, adjust the emissivity setting (0.1-0.99) to match the material being measured. Refer to the emissivity table below for common materials.

5.4 Unit Conversion (°C/°F)
To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press the '°C/°F' button located below the display.
5.5 MAX/MIN Function
The thermometer can display the maximum (MAX) and minimum (MIN) temperatures recorded during a continuous measurement. Press the 'MAX/MIN' button to cycle through these modes.
5.6 Laser ON/OFF and Backlight ON/OFF
Use the dedicated buttons to toggle the laser pointer and the display backlight on or off as needed. The backlight improves visibility in low-light conditions.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lens Care: The infrared lens is delicate. Clean it gently with a soft cloth or cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
- Storage: Store the thermometer in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display/Device won't turn on | Low or dead batteries; Incorrect battery installation | Replace batteries; Check battery polarity |
| Inaccurate readings | Incorrect emissivity setting; Distance too far; Lens dirty; Smoke/vapor interference | Adjust emissivity; Move closer to target; Clean lens; Avoid smoke/vapor |
| Laser not working | Laser function turned off | Press the laser ON/OFF button |
| Display backlight not working | Backlight function turned off | Press the backlight ON/OFF button |
Tip: During measurement, smoke and water vapor should be avoided from entering the instrument. If smoke and water vapor enter the instrument, the sensor may malfunction, and the measured value will be incorrect. In this case, the instrument needs to be placed in a ventilated area for at least half a day before use.
