Model: GFRVSTP

Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your GEARFLAG Manual RV Single Step. This folding aluminum entry step is designed to provide a safe and convenient access solution for your RV, camper, trailer, or motorhome. It features a robust construction with a 440 lbs (200 kg) capacity and an anti-slip surface for enhanced safety.

Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before installing or using this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or product damage.

  • Weight Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 440 lbs (200 kg). This step is designed to support up to two individuals simultaneously.
  • Secure Installation: Ensure the step is securely mounted to the RV's door threshold using appropriate M8 screws and bolts. Loose installation can lead to instability and injury.
  • Anti-Slip Surface: The step features an anti-slip surface. Keep the surface clean and free of debris, ice, or water to maintain optimal traction.
  • Folding Mechanism: Operate the folding mechanism carefully. Keep hands and fingers clear of pinch points during folding and unfolding.
  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the step for any signs of wear, damage, or loose fasteners. Do not use if damaged.

Package Contents

Verify that all components are present before beginning installation.

  • 1 x GEARFLAG Manual RV Single Step
  • Note: Screws and bolts for installation are NOT included. Recommended screw and bolt size: M8. The length of the screw depends on the thickness of the RV bottom plate.

Setup and Installation

Installation of the GEARFLAG RV Step requires basic tools and adherence to safety guidelines. It is recommended to have two people for installation to ensure proper alignment and safety.

Tools Required (Not Included):

  • Drill
  • Drill bits appropriate for M8 screws
  • Wrench/Socket set for M8 bolts
  • Measuring tape
  • Marker or pencil
  • Safety glasses

Installation Steps:

  1. Determine Mounting Location: Identify a suitable, sturdy location on your RV's door threshold or frame where the step can be securely mounted. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for the step to fold and unfold without obstruction.
  2. Measure and Mark: Position the step against the mounting surface. Use a measuring tape to ensure it is centered and level. Mark the drilling points for the mounting holes. The distance between mounting holes is approximately 52.70 cm (20.75 inches).

  3. Drill Pilot Holes: Using the appropriate drill bit for M8 screws, carefully drill pilot holes at the marked locations. Ensure holes are straight and do not damage any internal RV components.
  4. Secure the Step: Align the step's mounting brackets with the drilled holes. Insert M8 screws and bolts (not included) through the holes and securely fasten the step to the RV. Tighten all fasteners firmly, but do not overtighten.
  5. Test Operation: Once installed, carefully test the folding and unfolding mechanism. Ensure the step operates smoothly and locks securely in both the open and closed positions. Verify that the step feels stable and does not wobble.

Operating Instructions

The GEARFLAG Manual RV Single Step is designed for simple, manual operation.

To Unfold the Step:

  1. Locate the folded step beneath your RV's entry point.
  2. Grasp the step firmly and pull it downwards and outwards until it fully extends and locks into place. You should hear a click or feel it secure.
  3. Ensure the step is stable and level before use.

To Fold the Step:

  1. Ensure no one is standing on the step.
  2. Locate the release mechanism (if any, or simply push upwards) and lift the step upwards and inwards towards the RV until it is fully retracted and secured in its folded position.
  3. Verify that the step is securely folded and will not deploy accidentally during travel.

Maintenance and Care

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and safe operation of your RV step.

  • Cleaning: Clean the step regularly with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and dry to prevent water spots. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a silicone-based lubricant to the pivot points and springs to ensure smooth folding and unfolding operation.
  • Inspection: Before each use, inspect the step for any loose fasteners, cracks, bends, or other signs of damage. Pay close attention to the mounting points, hinges, and step surface.
  • Rust Prevention: The steel support plate has a black powder coating for rust resistance, and the steps are aluminum alloy. While designed for outdoor conditions, regular cleaning and inspection can further prevent corrosion, especially after exposure to salt water or harsh weather.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Step is stiff or difficult to fold/unfold. Lack of lubrication on pivot points or springs. Debris in mechanism. Clean the pivot points and springs. Apply a silicone-based lubricant to all moving parts.
Step feels wobbly or unstable after installation. Loose mounting screws/bolts. Improper installation. Check all mounting fasteners and tighten them securely. Ensure the mounting surface is rigid and flat. Re-evaluate installation if necessary.
Step surface is slippery. Dirt, mud, ice, or water on the anti-slip surface. Clean the step surface thoroughly. Ensure it is dry before use. Avoid using the step if covered in ice.
Step does not lock securely in open or closed position. Mechanism obstruction or damage. Inspect the locking mechanism for any obstructions or damage. If damaged, discontinue use and contact customer support.
