4.3 Initial Cleaning

Before first use, clean all removable parts that come into contact with coffee or water.

  1. Wash the insulated carafes, filter holders, and any other removable components with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.
  3. Perform a 'dummy' brew cycle without coffee to flush the internal system. Fill the water reservoir, place empty filter holders and carafes, and run a full brewing cycle. Discard the water.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Brewing Coffee

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Open the lid of the water reservoir and fill it with fresh, cold water up to the desired level for one or both brewing stations. Do not overfill.
  2. Prepare Filter: Place a paper filter (not included) into each filter holder.
  3. Add Coffee: Add the desired amount of ground coffee into each paper filter. A general guideline is 60g of coffee per liter of water, but adjust to taste.
  4. Position Carafes: Place the insulated carafes securely on the warming plates beneath the filter holders.
  5. Start Brewing: Plug the machine into a power outlet. Press the ON/OFF switch for the coffee machine (usually indicated by a coffee cup icon or similar). The brewing process will begin.
  6. Warming Plates: If you wish to keep the coffee warm after brewing, press the separate ON/OFF switch for the warming plates (often indicated by a heating element icon).

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your coffee machine, as well as for hygiene.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  1. Disconnect Power: Always unplug the machine and allow it to cool down before cleaning.
  2. Empty and Clean Carafes: Discard any remaining coffee. Wash the insulated carafes and their lids with warm, soapy water. Use a brush for thorough cleaning if necessary. Rinse well.
  3. Clean Filter Holders: Remove and discard used paper filters and coffee grounds. Wash the filter holders with warm, soapy water and rinse.
  4. Wipe Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces of the machine with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive pads.
  5. Clean Warming Plates: Wipe the warming plates with a damp cloth. Ensure they are dry before next use.

6.2 Descaling

Regular descaling is essential, especially in areas with hard water, to prevent mineral buildup that can affect performance and taste. GGM Gastro recommends regular descaling according to hygiene and safety guidelines.

  1. Prepare Descaling Solution: Use a commercial descaling agent suitable for coffee machines, following the manufacturer's instructions for dilution. Alternatively, a solution of white vinegar and water (1:2 ratio) can be used.
  2. Run Descaling Cycle: Pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir. Place empty carafes on the warming plates. Run a brewing cycle as if making coffee.
  3. Rinse: After the descaling cycle, discard the solution. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, clean water and run at least two full brewing cycles to thoroughly rinse the machine. Discard the rinse water.
  4. Frequency: Descale every 1-3 months depending on water hardness and usage.
