This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your rain and snow sensor module. Please read it thoroughly before use.

2. Product Features

  • Qualitative Measurement: Detects the presence of rain or snow with a rapid response time of less than 0.5 seconds.
  • High Sensitivity: Advanced AC measurement technology prevents oxidation of the induction plate, ensuring long-term sensitivity. Sensitivity is adjustable for flexible application.
  • Automatic Heating: Integrated heating function activates below 0°C to prevent ice and condensation buildup, maintaining accuracy in cold environments.
  • Strict Temperature Control: Heating temperature is precisely controlled at 40°C (standard) to prevent overheating and extend the sensor's lifespan.
  • Durable Design: IP68 protection level allows for long-term outdoor operation.
  • Configurable Alarms: Alarm and reset delays can be set to prevent frequent false alarms.
  • Easy Installation: Compact and aesthetically designed for straightforward mounting.

3. Safety Information

Please observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the device:

  • Ensure the power supply voltage is within the specified range (10-30V DC).
  • Disconnect power before performing any installation, wiring, or maintenance.
  • All wiring should be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with local electrical codes.
  • Do not expose the sensor to corrosive chemicals or extreme physical impact.
  • Mount the sensor securely to prevent it from falling.

4. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in the package:

  • 1 x Automatic Heating Rain and Snow Sensor Module (Model RS YUX N01 H)
  • 4 x Mounting Screws
  • 4 x Wall Anchors

5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Mounting the Sensor

Choose a location where the sensor can accurately detect rain and snow without obstruction from overhangs, trees, or other structures. Ensure the sensor is mounted with the detection plate facing upwards.

  • Mark the desired mounting points using the sensor's base as a template.
  • Drill pilot holes suitable for the provided wall anchors (if mounting on masonry or drywall).
  • Secure the sensor to the surface using the provided screws.
  • Ensure the sensor is installed with an angle of up to 15 degrees from horizontal to allow for proper water runoff, as shown in Image 5.1.

5.2 Wiring Instructions

The sensor uses a 485 Mode interface for communication. Connect the wires according to the following sequence:

  • VCC (Brown): Power supply positive (10-30V DC)
  • GND (Black): Power supply negative / Ground
  • A (Yellow): RS485 A+ data line
  • B (Blue): RS485 B- data line

Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits and water ingress.

6. Operation

Once powered, the sensor continuously monitors the detection plate for moisture. When rain or snow is detected, the sensor will trigger its output signal via the 485 interface.

  • Automatic Heating: If the ambient temperature drops below 0°C and humidity is high, the sensor's internal heating element will activate automatically to prevent freezing and condensation on the detection plate. This ensures accurate readings even in harsh winter conditions. The heating temperature is maintained at approximately 40°C.
  • Sensitivity Adjustment: The sensor's sensitivity can be adjusted via software configuration (refer to the parameter configuration section for details on software settings).
  • Alarm and Reset Delay: These parameters can be configured via software to prevent frequent alarms, allowing for stable system integration.

7. Maintenance

The Generic Rain and Snow Sensor Module is designed for low maintenance. However, periodic checks can ensure optimal performance:

  • Cleaning: Periodically inspect the detection plate for any accumulated dirt, leaves, or debris. Gently clean the surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or tools that could scratch the plate.
  • Connection Check: Annually inspect the wiring connections for any signs of corrosion, loose terminals, or damage to the cable insulation.
  • Mounting Security: Ensure the sensor remains securely mounted and has not shifted from its original position or angle.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Sensor not detecting rain/snowNo power; Incorrect wiring; Obstructed detection plate; Sensitivity too low.Check power supply (10-30V DC); Verify wiring connections; Clean detection plate; Adjust sensitivity via software.
Sensor constantly detecting (false alarms)High humidity/condensation without heating; Sensitivity too high; Incorrect alarm delay setting.Ensure heating function is active in cold/humid conditions; Adjust sensitivity via software; Increase alarm delay setting.
Heating function not workingAmbient temperature above 0°C; Faulty heating element.Heating only activates below 0°C; If temperature is below 0°C and heating is off, contact support.
Communication errors (485 Mode)Incorrect wiring (A/B reversed); Incorrect address/baud rate; Cable damage.Verify A and B line connections; Check 485 address and baud rate settings; Inspect cable for damage.
