1. Introduction

The NComputing EX500W Thin Client is a high-performance device designed for seamless connectivity to various virtualization platforms. Powered by an x86-64 CPU architecture, it supports 4K Ultra HD video, dual monitors, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, and a wide range of peripherals. Running on LEAF OS, a secure Linux-based operating system, the EX500W provides efficient access to virtual desktops and cloud workspaces. Remote management is facilitated through PMC Endpoint Manager, allowing for streamlined configuration and updates.

3.1. Front Panel

• Power Button: To power the device on or off.

4. Setup

4.1. Connecting Peripherals

1. Connect your monitor(s) to the HDMI ports on the rear panel of the EX500W.
2. Connect your keyboard and mouse to the available USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports.
3. For wired network access, connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port.
4. If using external speakers or headphones, connect them to the audio jack.

4.2. Powering On

1. Connect the power adapter to the DC input port on the EX500W.
2. Plug the power adapter into a power outlet.
3. Press the power button on the front panel to turn on the device. The power indicator light will illuminate.

4.3. VESA Mounting

The included VESA mounting kit allows you to attach the EX500W to the back of a compatible monitor or to a wall, saving desk space. Follow the instructions provided with the VESA kit for proper installation.

5. Operating

5.1. LEAF OS

The EX500W runs on LEAF OS, a secure Linux-based operating system designed for thin client environments. Upon boot-up, you will be presented with the LEAF OS desktop or a login screen, depending on your configuration.

5.2. Virtualization Platform Connectivity

The EX500W is compatible with a variety of virtualization platforms, including Microsoft AVD, Windows 365, RDS, Citrix HDX, VMware Horizon, Amazon WorkSpaces, and NComputing's VERDE VDI, VERDE Remote Access, and vSpace Pro Enterprise. Refer to your specific virtualization platform's documentation for connection procedures.

5.3. Local Applications

LEAF OS supports select local applications such as web browsing, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. These applications can be accessed directly from the thin client, enhancing functionality and reducing reliance on the virtual desktop for certain tasks.

5.4. Remote Management with PMC Endpoint Manager

6. Maintenance

6.1. General Care

• Keep the device in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Avoid blocking ventilation openings to ensure proper airflow and prevent overheating.
• Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.

6.2. Software Updates

The EX500W includes 1-year of Device AMP coverage, which provides access to software updates and technical support. Regularly check for and apply updates via PMC Endpoint Manager to ensure optimal performance and security.

7. Troubleshooting

• No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the device and a working power outlet. Try a different outlet if necessary.
