5. Installation

5.1 Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Ensure the installation site is level, dry, and well-ventilated.
  • Verify that the electrical supply matches the pump's voltage (115V).
  • Gather necessary tools and plumbing supplies (PVC pipes, PVC glue/cement, hose clamps, adapters if needed).
  • Position the pump as close to the pool as possible to minimize friction loss in plumbing.

5.2 Plumbing Connections

The AQUASTRONG PSP200 pump includes two different adapters (1.5-inch and 2-inch internal diameter) to facilitate connection to various pool systems. Proper sealing is crucial to prevent leaks and ensure optimal pump performance.

Image 5.1: Illustration of outlet/inlet connection methods.

  1. Method 1: 1-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC Pipe Glue Connection

For a permanent and secure connection, use 1-1/2 inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Apply PVC glue/cement to the pipe and the inside of the adapter, then firmly connect them. Allow adequate drying time as per the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.

  2. Method 2: 1-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC Pipe Glue Connection + 2" PVC Hose with Clamp

This method offers flexibility. First, glue a 1-1/2 inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe to the adapter as in Method 1. Then, connect a 2-inch PVC hose to the pipe using a hose clamp to ensure a tight seal. Ensure all connections are leak-free.

Important: Always ensure a watertight seal for all plumbing connections to prevent air leaks, which can affect pump performance and lead to damage.

6. Operation

6.1 Initial Startup

  1. Ensure all plumbing connections are secure and the filter basket is clean and properly seated.
  2. Fill the pump housing with water through the skimmer or by removing the filter basket lid and pouring water directly into the basket area until the water level is above the pump's inlet. This primes the pump.
  3. Once primed, plug the pump into a grounded 115V electrical outlet. The pump is designed for plug-and-play operation and will start automatically.
  4. Observe the pump for any unusual noises or leaks. If the pump does not prime or operate correctly, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

6.2 Normal Operation

The AQUASTRONG PSP200 is a single-speed pump designed for continuous circulation. Allow the pump to run for several hours daily to ensure proper filtration and water circulation for your pool size. Consult your pool professional for recommended daily run times based on your pool volume and usage.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Filter Basket

Regular cleaning of the filter basket is essential for efficient pump operation and to prevent damage. The frequency depends on pool usage and debris levels.

  1. Disconnect Power: Always turn off and unplug the pump before cleaning.
  2. Remove Lid: Use the provided lid opener tool to carefully remove the filter basket lid.
  3. Remove Basket: Lift out the detachable filter basket.
  4. Clean Debris: Empty any collected leaves, hair, grit, or other debris from the basket. Rinse the basket thoroughly with water.
  5. Inspect O-Ring: Check the lid O-ring for cracks or wear. Lubricate with a silicone-based lubricant if dry.
  6. Reassemble: Place the clean basket back into the pump housing, ensuring it is seated correctly. Replace the lid and tighten it securely using the lid opener tool. Do not overtighten.
  7. Reprime: If necessary, re-prime the pump as described in the Initial Startup section before restoring power.

7.2 Winterization (for colder climates)

If you live in an area where temperatures drop below freezing, proper winterization of your pool pump is crucial to prevent damage.

  1. Disconnect Power: Turn off and unplug the pump.
  2. Drain Water: Remove the drain plug(s) from the pump housing to allow all water to escape. Store the drain plugs in the filter basket to prevent loss.
  3. Disconnect Plumbing: Disconnect the inlet and outlet plumbing from the pump.
  4. Store Pump: Clean the exterior of the pump and store it in a dry, warm, and protected area during the winter months.
