1. Introduction
The Tomantery UA6013L is a professional digital capacitance meter designed for accurate measurement of capacitance values. This device features a clear LCD display, a wide measurement range from 0.1pF to 20,000uF across 9 ranges, data retention, and backlighting. It is suitable for various applications including digital analysis, capacitor selection, measurement of unknown capacitors, matching capacitors, and cable capacitance testing. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your UA6013L capacitance meter.
2. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or damage to the meter.
- Discharge Capacitors: Always ensure that capacitors are fully discharged before testing. High voltage capacitors can store dangerous charges even after power is removed.
- Inspect Test Leads: Before each use, check the test leads for any damage to the insulation or connectors. Do not use damaged leads.
- Battery Safety: Ensure the battery compartment is securely closed during operation. Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears. Do not mix old and new batteries.
- Operating Environment: Use the meter within the specified operating temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid using the meter in wet environments or near explosive gases or dust.
- Do Not Exceed Ratings: Never attempt to measure capacitance beyond the meter's specified maximum input ratings.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to repair or modify the meter yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

Figure 3.1: UA6013L Front Panel with Labeled Components
This image displays the front panel of the Tomantery UA6013L Digital Capacitance Meter with key components labeled. These include the LCD Display, CX+ and CX- Input Jacks, Data-hold Button, Back Light Button Switch, Zeroing Knob (ADJ), Rotary Switch for selecting functions and ranges, and CX- Tester Input Jack and CX+ Tester Input Jack.
- LCD Display: Shows measurement readings and indicators.
- HOLD Button: Freezes the current reading on the display.
- Backlight Button: Activates or deactivates the display backlight.
- ADJ (Zeroing Knob): Used to zero out residual capacitance before measurement.
- Rotary Switch: Selects the desired measurement range (e.g., 200pF, 20nF, 200uF).
- CX+ / CX- Input Jacks: Connect the test leads for capacitance measurement.
4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The UA6013L is powered by a 9V laminated battery (6F22 type). Ensure the battery is installed correctly before use.

Figure 4.1: UA6013L Front and Back Views
This image shows the front and back of the Tomantery UA6013L Digital Capacitance Meter. The back view indicates the location of the battery compartment, which is secured by a screw.
- Turn off the meter by setting the rotary switch to the 'OFF' position.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screw securing the battery compartment cover.
- Carefully remove the cover.
- Connect a new 9V battery to the battery clip, observing correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Place the battery inside the compartment and replace the cover, securing it with the screw.
4.2 Connecting Test Leads
Insert the red test lead into the CX+ input jack and the black test lead into the CX- input jack.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Zero Adjustment
Before measuring, it is crucial to zero the meter to compensate for residual capacitance in the test leads and internal circuitry, especially for small capacitance values.
- Ensure the test leads are connected but not touching each other or any component.
- Select the desired measurement range using the rotary switch. For initial zeroing, any range can be used, but it's best to zero on the range you intend to use for small capacitors.
- Adjust the 'ADJ' (Zeroing Knob) until the LCD display shows '000' or as close to zero as possible.
5.2 Measuring Capacitance
Follow these steps to accurately measure the capacitance of a component.

Figure 5.1: UA6013L in Use
This image shows the Tomantery UA6013L Digital Capacitance Meter with its test leads connected to a component, demonstrating a typical measurement setup. The meter is positioned on a stand, indicating its readiness for use.
- Discharge the Capacitor: Crucially, ensure the capacitor to be measured is fully discharged before connecting it to the meter. Failure to do so can damage the meter or cause injury.
- Select Range: Turn the rotary switch to an appropriate measurement range. If the capacitance value is unknown, start with a higher range and gradually decrease it until a stable and accurate reading is obtained.
- Connect Capacitor: Connect the leads of the capacitor to the CX+ and CX- input jacks. For polarized capacitors, connect the positive lead of the capacitor to CX+ and the negative lead to CX-.
- Read Measurement: The capacitance value will be displayed on the LCD.
5.3 Data Hold Function
Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function and resume live measurements.
5.4 Backlight Function
Press the backlight button to illuminate the LCD display for better visibility in low-light conditions. Press it again to turn off the backlight.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the meter's casing with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.
6.2 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery as described in Section 4.1. Remove the battery if the meter will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
6.3 Storage
Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The recommended storage environment is temperature -10-50 ℃, relative humidity: ≤ 85%.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your UA6013L, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display or dim display | Dead or low battery; Incorrect battery installation | Replace the 9V battery; Ensure correct polarity during installation. |
| Inaccurate readings | Meter not zeroed; Incorrect range selected; Damaged test leads; Capacitor not fully discharged | Perform zero adjustment (Section 5.1); Select an appropriate range; Inspect and replace test leads if damaged; Fully discharge capacitor before testing. |
| Display shows 'OL' (Overload) | Capacitance value exceeds selected range; Open circuit | Select a higher measurement range; Check if the capacitor leads are properly connected. |
