Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and safety of your range hood. It is recommended to have a qualified professional perform the installation. Ensure all local codes and ordinances are followed.

Pre-Installation Steps

  1. Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove all packaging materials and inspect the range hood for any damage. Retain packaging for potential returns.
  2. Gather Tools: Ensure you have all necessary tools as listed in the manual (e.g., drill, tape measure, level, cutter).
  3. Prepare Cabinet Opening: Cut an opening in the bottom of your overhead cabinet according to the dimensions provided in the diagram below.

  1. Install Wood Blocking: Fabricate and anchor wood blocking inside the cupboard bottom panel surrounding the opening. This provides a secure mounting surface for the range hood.

Mounting the Range Hood

  1. Insert and Secure: Carefully insert and slide the range hood into the prepared opening in the overhead cabinet. Ensure the side installation holes align with the installed wood blocking. Fasten the range hood using the provided wood screws through the installation holes.
  2. Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.

Ventilation Options (Ducted/Ductless)

Your VIKIO HOME range hood supports both ducted and ductless installations.

  • Ducted Installation: Attach the provided duct adapter to the top of the range hood. Connect a 6-inch round duct (flexible or rigid, not included unless specified) to the adapter and extend it to the outside of your home. Secure all connections with aluminum foil tape to prevent leaks.
  • Ductless (Recirculating) Installation: For ductless operation, ensure the activated carbon filters are installed. These filters will purify the air before recirculating it back into the kitchen. No external ducting is required.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your range hood.

Filter Cleaning

  • Aluminum Mesh Filters: The 5-layer aluminum mesh filters are dishwasher safe. To clean, simply remove them by pulling the latch and place them in your dishwasher. Clean regularly (e.g., monthly) depending on cooking frequency.
  • Activated Carbon Filters (Ductless): If using the range hood in ductless mode, the activated carbon filters should be replaced every 3-6 months, depending on usage. These filters are not washable.
