2. Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the appearance and adhesion of your new hood decal. Follow these steps carefully:

2.1. Required Tools and Materials

• Clean, lint-free cloths
• Rubbing alcohol or a mild degreaser
• Spray bottle with water and a few drops of mild soap (optional, for wet application)
• Squeegee or credit card (wrapped in a soft cloth)
• Masking tape
• Measuring tape

2.2. Surface Preparation

1. Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the tractor hood surface where the decal will be applied. Use rubbing alcohol or a mild degreaser to remove all dirt, grease, wax, and debris.
2. Rinse and Dry: Rinse the area with clean water and dry it completely with a lint-free cloth. Ensure no moisture remains.
3. Temperature: For best results, apply the decal in a clean, dust-free environment with temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (15°C and 27°C).

2.3. Decal Application (Dry Method - Recommended for smaller decals)

1. Positioning: Carefully place the decal on the desired area without removing the backing paper. Use masking tape to temporarily hold it in place and step back to check alignment. Adjust as needed.
2. Hinge Method: Once positioned, apply a strip of masking tape across the center of the decal, creating a hinge. This will hold the decal in place while you work on one half.
3. Remove Backing (First Half): Peel back the backing paper from one side of the hinge, cutting it off cleanly.
4. Apply Decal (First Half): Starting from the hinge, slowly and carefully apply the decal to the surface. Use a squeegee or credit card (wrapped in cloth) to smooth out the decal, working from the center outwards to prevent air bubbles.
5. Remove Hinge and Backing (Second Half): Remove the masking tape hinge. Peel back the remaining backing paper from the other side.
6. Apply Decal (Second Half): Repeat the smoothing process for the second half, working from the center outwards.
7. Final Smoothing: Once the entire decal is applied, firmly rub over the entire surface with the squeegee to ensure maximum adhesion and remove any remaining small bubbles.
8. Curing Time: Allow the decal to cure for at least 24-48 hours before washing the tractor or exposing it to harsh conditions.

2.4. Decal Application (Wet Method - Optional, for larger decals or beginners)

1. Prepare Solution: Mix water with a few drops of mild soap in a spray bottle.
2. Spray Surface: Lightly spray the cleaned application surface with the soap solution.
3. Remove Backing: Carefully peel the entire backing paper from the decal.
4. Spray Adhesive Side: Lightly spray the adhesive side of the decal with the soap solution.
5. Positioning: Place the decal onto the wet surface. The solution allows you to slide and reposition the decal until it's perfectly aligned.
6. Squeegee Water: Once positioned, use a squeegee to gently push the water and air bubbles out from under the decal, working from the center outwards.
7. Dry and Cure: Allow the decal to dry completely. This may take several hours. Do not touch or disturb the decal during this time. The decal will adhere firmly as the water evaporates.

• Waxing: You may wax over the decal with non-abrasive car wax to protect it, but avoid waxes that contain petroleum distillates or harsh solvents.

• Air Bubbles:
  • Small Bubbles: Most small bubbles will dissipate on their own over a few days or weeks as the decal cures.
  • Large Bubbles: For larger, persistent bubbles, you can carefully prick the edge of the bubble with a fine needle and gently press the air out with your thumb or a squeegee.
• Peeling Edges:
  • Ensure the surface was thoroughly cleaned and dry before application.
  • Press down firmly on the peeling edge with your thumb or a squeegee. If the issue persists, a small amount of vinyl adhesive can be used, but this should be done with caution.
• Misalignment:
  • If using the wet method, you can reposition the decal before squeegeeing.
  • For dry application, if misalignment is significant, it may be necessary to carefully peel off the decal and reapply, or replace it if the adhesive is compromised.
