2. Important Safety Information
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, observe the following safety instructions:
- Read all instructions before using this heater.
- This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Use handles when moving this heater. Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the heater and keep them away from the sides and rear.
- Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
- Always unplug heater when not in use.
- Do not operate any heater with a damaged cord or plug or after the heater malfunctions, has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Discard heater, or return to authorized service facility for examination and/or repair.
- Do not use outdoors.
- This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas and similar indoor locations. Never locate heater where it may fall into a bathtub or other water container.
- Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Arrange cord away from traffic area and where it will not be tripped over.
- To disconnect heater, turn controls to OFF, then remove plug from outlet.
- Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
- To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
- A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable vapors or liquids are used or stored.
- Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
- Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet/receptacle. Never use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap (outlet/power strip).
- This product contains a button cell battery. If the coin/button cell battery is swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns in just 2 hours and can lead to death. Keep new and used batteries away from children. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children. If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.
- If the coin cell battery contents come into contact with the skin, immediately wash area with mild soap and water. If coin cell battery liquid gets into the eye, rinse with water over the open eye for 30 minutes or until irritation ceases. If medical attention is needed, the battery electrolyte is composed of an organic solvent and lithium salts.
- Do not incinerate or dispose of tool together with household waste material. Tool that has reached the end of its life must be collected separately and returned to an environmentally compatible recycling facility.

4. Product Overview
The BLACK+DECKER BHTC650R heater features electronic touch controls with an LED display for easy operation, along with a full-function remote control. It is designed for personal space heating in home or office environments.

5. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your heater:
- Place the heater on a firm, level surface and plug the unit directly into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
- Ensure the heater is in an upright position. The safety tip-over switch on the bottom requires the heater to be perfectly flat on the floor or surface for it to operate. If the heater tips even slightly, the switch opens the circuit and the heater turns off immediately.
- For optimal performance, ensure there is adequate clearance around the heater for proper airflow.

6. Operating Instructions
Power On/Off
- Press the POWER button () on the control panel or remote to turn the heater ON. The heater will default to FAN mode.
- Press the POWER button again to turn the heater OFF. When powering OFF, the display will count down and run the FAN only mode for 30 seconds to cool the heater down.
Mode Selection
Press the MODE button () repeatedly to cycle through the following settings:
- FAN Only: Circulates air without heat.
- LOW Heat (1000 Watts): Provides moderate heat.
- HIGH Heat (1500 Watts): Provides maximum heat.
- ECO Mode: Automatically cycles between low and high heat based on the room temperature, maximizing comfort while using lower wattage settings to save energy. Specific temperatures cannot be selected in ECO mode.

Adjusting Thermostat
In either High or Low Heat mode, press the INCREASE () or DECREASE () buttons to set the desired temperature between 59°F and 95°F. The display will show the set temperature for a few seconds before returning to the current room temperature.

Oscillation Function
Press the OSCILLATION button () to activate or deactivate the 70-degree oscillation feature, which helps distribute heat evenly across a wider area.
Timer Function
Press the TIMER button () to set the automatic shut-off timer. Each press will increase the timer setting by 1 hour, up to a maximum of 24 hours. The display will show the selected time before returning to the current room temperature. To cancel the timer, cycle through the settings until '00' is displayed.

7. Remote Control
The remote control allows for convenient operation of all heater functions from a distance. Ensure the remote has a working CR2025 3V battery installed.
Battery Installation
- Using a small Phillips head screwdriver, remove the screw by turning counter-clockwise until it releases from the remote.
- Push the button at the base of the battery cover to release the cover. Pull out the battery cover as shown in the diagram.
- Insert the battery making sure the "+" side is facing up.
- Once the battery is installed, push the battery cover closed.
- Again, using the small Phillips head screwdriver, add the screw back by turning clockwise until it is locked in place.
WARNING: Button cell battery hazard. Keep batteries away from children.
8. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your heater.
- Always unplug the heater and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces of the heater. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to gently remove dust from the air intake and exhaust grilles.
- Do not immerse the heater in water or allow water to drip into the interior.
- Store the heater in a cool, dry place when not in use.
9. Troubleshooting
Before calling for service, review the following common issues and solutions:
