Introduction

The HRD-104 Portable AM/FM Digital Radio is a compact and versatile device designed for convenient listening on the go. Featuring dual-band AM/FM reception, a clear 1.3-inch LCD display, and a user-friendly interface, this mini receiver allows you to enjoy news, music, and your favorite radio stations anywhere. Its small size, along with included accessories like a lanyard and headphones, makes it an ideal companion for daily use.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The HRD-104 radio requires two (2) 1.5V AAA batteries (not included) for operation. Follow these steps to install them:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the cover downwards to open the compartment.
  3. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover by sliding it upwards until it clicks into place.

2. Connecting Headphones

For private listening, connect the included 3.5mm headphones to the headphone jack located on the side of the radio. The radio is designed to provide stereo audio through the headphones. The included sponge earplugs can be used for added comfort and ear protection during prolonged use.

3. Charging (Optional)

While primarily battery-powered, the radio features a DC 5V micro USB port for external power supply. This port can be used to power the device directly from a compatible USB power source (e.g., a USB wall adapter or power bank) if desired, though it does not charge the AAA batteries.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

Press the POWER/SLEEP button (labeled 1 in Figure 7) to turn the radio on or off.

2. Band Selection and Tuning

The HRD-104 supports both AM and FM bands.

  • Switching Bands: Press the AM/FM & SCAN button (labeled 11 in Figure 7) to switch between AM and FM modes.
  • Automatic Scan: In either AM or FM mode, press and hold the AM/FM & SCAN button to automatically scan for available stations. The radio will stop at the next strong signal.
  • Manual Tuning: Use the TUN+ (labeled 7 in Figure 7) and TUN- (labeled 8 in Figure 7) buttons to manually adjust the frequency in small increments.
  • Preset Stations: The radio can store up to 58 preset stations (29 for each band).
    • To save a station: Tune to the desired station, then press the MEMO/DEL button (labeled 12 in Figure 7). Use M+ (labeled 9) or M- (labeled 10) to select a preset number, then press MEMO/DEL again to confirm.
    • To recall a station: Press M+ or M- to cycle through saved preset stations.

3. Volume Control

Adjust the volume using the Volume + (labeled 13 in Figure 7) and Volume - (labeled 14 in Figure 7) buttons located on the side of the radio.

4. LCD Display

The 1.3-inch LCD display (labeled 6 in Figure 7) shows the current radio frequency, time, battery indicator, and other relevant information. For night use, the radio features an orange backlight. Press any button to activate the backlight for 5 seconds.

5. Antenna Usage

For optimal FM reception, extend the external 4-section telescopic antenna (labeled 5 in Figure 7). If the signal is weak, try adjusting the antenna's position. If reception is disturbed by a very strong radio station, try shortening the antenna.

6. Time and Alarm Setting

The radio includes a digital clock display and an alarm clock function. Refer to the detailed button function diagram (Figure 7) for specific controls related to time and alarm settings.

Maintenance

1. Battery Care

To prolong battery life and prevent potential damage from leakage, remove the AAA batteries from the compartment if the radio will not be used for an extended period. Replace batteries when the sound becomes smaller or beeping sounds appear, indicating low battery power.

2. Cleaning

Wipe the radio's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals, as these may damage the finish or internal components. Avoid exposing the radio to excessive moisture.

Troubleshooting
