2. Important Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before installing and operating this device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, injury, or death.
General Safety Guidelines
- This device is designed for residential use.
- Do not paint the detector. Paint can clog the sensing chambers and prevent the alarm from operating correctly.
- Do not block or cover the detector's vents.
- Test the alarm weekly to ensure proper operation.
- Never ignore an alarm. Investigate the cause immediately.
- Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas. This detector is designed to detect its presence, but it is not a substitute for proper ventilation and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances.

Where to Install
Install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home, including basements and attics. For optimal protection, install an alarm inside every sleeping area and outside each separate sleeping area. Ensure alarms are placed at least 15 feet (4.5 meters) from fuel-burning appliances to prevent nuisance alarms.

Where NOT to Install
- In garages, kitchens, furnace rooms, or bathrooms where combustion particles, moisture, or steam could cause nuisance alarms.
- Within 20 feet (6 meters) of a furnace or fuel-burning appliance.
- In extremely dusty, dirty, or greasy areas.
- In areas where the temperature is below 40°F (4.4°C) or above 100°F (37.8°C).
- In dead air spaces, such as at the peak of a vaulted ceiling or in a corner where walls and ceiling meet.
3. Setup and Installation
The Kesymo YHW-540COM-R detector is designed for easy installation. Follow these steps to set up your device.

4. Operating Instructions
Normal Operation
During normal operation, the detector's LCD screen will typically show "CO 0 PPM" (or a low ambient CO level) and the green LED indicator will flash periodically, indicating proper function.
LCD Digital Display
The LCD display provides important information:
- CO Levels: Displays real-time carbon monoxide concentration in Parts Per Million (PPM).
- Battery Level: Indicates the current battery status.
Alarm Indications
| Condition | Visual Indicator (LED) | Audible Indicator | LCD Display |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smoke Alarm | Blue light flashes rapidly | Loud, continuous alarm pattern | "FIRE" or similar indicator |
| Carbon Monoxide Alarm | Red light flashes | Four short beeps, pause, repeat | CO level in PPM |
| Low Battery Warning | Yellow/Amber light flashes | Single chirp every 30-60 seconds | "Lb" or "BAT" |
| Malfunction/Fault | Yellow/Amber light flashes | Multiple chirps or specific error pattern | "ERR" or error code |
If a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm sounds, evacuate all occupants immediately and call emergency services. Do not re-enter the premises until cleared by authorities.
Testing the Detector
Test your detector weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly:
- Press and hold the "TEST" button on the detector for a few seconds.
- The alarm will sound a test pattern (e.g., 3 beeps for smoke, 4 beeps for CO) and the corresponding LED will flash.
- Release the button. The alarm should stop.
- If the alarm does not sound during the test, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the continued reliable operation of your Kesymo detector.
Battery Replacement
The detector uses 3x AA batteries with an expected life of up to five years. When the low battery warning sounds (a chirp every 30-60 seconds and "Lb" on the LCD), replace all three batteries immediately.
- Twist the detector counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
- Open the battery compartment.
- Remove the old batteries and dispose of them according to local regulations.
- Insert three new 1.5V AA alkaline batteries, observing correct polarity.
- Close the battery compartment and reattach the detector to the mounting bracket.
- Test the detector after battery replacement.
Cleaning Your Detector
Clean your detector at least once a month to remove dust and debris that could interfere with its operation.
- Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector using the soft brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner.
- Wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use cleaning solvents or chemicals.
- Never paint the detector.
6. Troubleshooting
If your detector is not operating as expected, refer to the following common issues and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm chirps every 30-60 seconds | Low battery | Replace all three AA batteries. |
| Alarm sounds without apparent smoke/CO | Nuisance alarm (steam, cooking fumes, dust), detector malfunction | Ventilate the area. Clean the detector. If false alarms persist, relocate the detector or contact support. |
| Detector does not sound during test | Dead batteries, malfunction | Replace batteries. Ensure batteries are inserted correctly. If still unresponsive, contact support. |
| LCD displays "ERR" or error code | Internal fault | Contact customer support for assistance. |
