Safety Information

Setup and Installation

The HATHEPHS alarm offers quick and straightforward installation using either adhesive tape or screws.

  • 2 x Combination Smoke & CO Alarm
  • 2 x Mounting Bracket
  • 2 x Adhesive Tape
  • 4 x Screws/Anchors
  • 1 x User Manual (this document)

Activation Before Use:

  1. Before mounting, press and hold the center of the top cover for approximately 10 seconds.
  2. The LED indicator will light up, and you will hear a beep, indicating the device is activated and ready for use.

Installation Steps:

Choose one of the following installation methods:

Method 1: Adhesive Tape Installation (More convenient)

  1. Ensure the mounting surface (wall or ceiling) is clean, dry, and smooth.
  2. Peel the protective backing from the adhesive tape.
  3. Attach the adhesive tape firmly to the back of the mounting bracket.
  4. Press the mounting bracket firmly onto the desired installation location for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Align the alarm with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it clicks into place.

Method 2: Screw Installation (More secure)

  1. Choose a suitable installation location.
  2. Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark the positions for the screw holes on the wall or ceiling.
  3. Drill holes at the marked positions and insert the provided anchors (if installing into drywall or plaster).
  4. Secure the mounting bracket to the surface using the provided screws.
  5. Align the alarm with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it clicks into place.

Recommended Placement:

  • Install at least one alarm on every level of your home, including basements and attics.
  • For optimal smoke detection, install alarms in hallways outside sleeping areas and in living rooms.
  • For optimal carbon monoxide detection, install alarms near sleeping areas and in rooms where fuel-burning appliances are located.
  • Avoid installing near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could interfere with detection.
  • Avoid installing in kitchens or bathrooms where steam or cooking fumes could cause false alarms.

Operating Instructions

Testing the Alarm:

It is recommended to test your alarm weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly.

  1. Press and hold the large test/silence button (the entire top cover) for a few seconds.
  2. The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating tone, and the LED indicator will flash.
  3. Release the button. The alarm should stop.
  4. If the alarm does not sound or the LED does not flash, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Silencing a Nuisance Alarm:

If the alarm sounds due to non-emergency conditions (e.g., cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence it.

  1. Press the large test/silence button once.
  2. The alarm will enter a temporary silence mode for approximately 9 minutes.
  3. If the smoke or CO concentration remains high after the silence period, the alarm will reactivate.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper functioning of your HATHEPHS alarm.

  • Weekly Test: Test the alarm weekly as described in the "Operating Instructions" section.
  • Monthly Cleaning: Gently vacuum the alarm's cover and vents using a soft brush attachment to remove dust and debris. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
  • Do Not Paint: Never paint the alarm. Paint can clog the sensing chambers and prevent the alarm from functioning properly.
  • Battery Life: The built-in battery is designed to last 10 years. When the low battery warning sounds, the unit should be replaced.
