Safety Information

It is crucial to follow all safety guidelines to prevent injury or damage. This detector is intended for indoor use only.

  • Do not paint the detector: Paint can clog the sensor openings and interfere with the unit's ability to detect smoke or carbon monoxide.
  • Do not block vents: Ensure that the air vents on the detector are not obstructed by furniture, curtains, or other objects.
  • Avoid extreme environments: Do not install the detector in areas with extreme temperatures, high humidity, or excessive dust, as this can affect performance.
  • Regular testing: Test the detector regularly as described in the "Operating" section to ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • Alarm response: If the alarm sounds, evacuate the premises immediately and call emergency services. Do not re-enter until the area has been declared safe by professionals.
  • Electrical safety: This is a plug-in device. Ensure the electrical outlet is in good condition and meets local electrical codes. Do not force the plug into an outlet.

Setup

Initial Setup:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the detector from its packaging.
  2. Plug In: Insert the detector into a standard US 110V-220V AC electrical outlet. The device will power on automatically.
  3. Self-Test: Upon initial power-up, the detector will perform a self-test. The screen will light up, and you may hear a short beep.
  4. Charging: The built-in 2000 mAh backup battery will begin charging automatically when plugged into an active outlet.

Placement Guide:

Proper placement is essential for effective detection. Consider the following guidelines:

  • General: Install at least one detector on each level of your home, including the basement.
  • Bedrooms: Place a detector in or near sleeping areas to ensure occupants are alerted to hazards.
  • Living Areas: Install in living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens.
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO): CO is slightly lighter than air and mixes readily with air. For optimal CO detection, install the unit at knee height or higher, but not directly on the ceiling.
  • Smoke: Smoke rises. For optimal smoke detection, install the unit higher on the wall, closer to the ceiling, but not directly in corners where dead air pockets can form.
  • Avoid: Do not place near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could interfere with readings. Avoid placing directly above heat sources or in areas with high humidity (e.g., bathrooms).
