4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Keypad

  • Disconnect the keypad from your computer before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the surface of the keypad.
  • For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth with a mild cleaning solution can be used, ensuring no liquid enters the internal components.
  • Use a can of compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keys.

4.2 Hot-Swappable Switches

The NLOFIN keypad features hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to change mechanical switches without soldering. This model uses hot-swappable short axis switches. Ensure any replacement switches are compatible with this specific type.

  1. Using a switch puller, carefully grip the switch on its top and bottom sides.
  2. Gently pull the switch straight up to remove it from the socket.
  3. Align the pins of the new compatible switch with the holes in the PCB socket.
  4. Press the new switch firmly into place until it clicks. Ensure it is seated correctly and not bent.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Keypad Not Responding:
Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the keypad and your computer. Try a different USB port or cable. Restart your computer.
  • VIAL Software Not Detecting Keypad:
Verify the keypad is connected. Close and reopen the VIAL software. Ensure you have the latest version of VIAL. Check your computer's device manager to see if the keypad is recognized.
  • Backlight Not Working or Incorrect:
Check the RGB backlight control settings in VIAL. Ensure the backlight is not turned off or set to minimum brightness.
  • Keys Not Registering or Sticking:
This keypad uses hot-swappable short axis switches. If a key is not registering or feels sticky, the switch may be faulty or improperly seated. Try removing and re-inserting the switch. If the issue persists, replace the switch with a compatible short axis switch. Note that standard 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches are not compatible with this keypad.
