General Usage Tips:

  • Paper Selection: Alcohol markers can bleed through thin paper. Use thick paper, marker paper, or place a protective sheet underneath your artwork to prevent bleed-through.
  • Blending: Alcohol-based inks are designed for smooth blending. Apply lighter colors first, then layer darker colors, or use a colorless blender marker for seamless transitions.
  • Color Coding: Each marker cap is color-coded for quick identification.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your Brillcolors Alcohol Markers.

Storage:

  • Always store markers horizontally to ensure even ink distribution to both tips.
  • Keep caps securely fastened when not in use to prevent the ink from drying out.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.

Refilling Ink:

Brillcolors markers are designed to be refillable. When a marker starts to run dry, you can replenish its ink supply.

  1. Identify Low Ink: A marker may show signs of low ink by producing lighter, streaky lines.
  2. Remove Nib: Carefully remove one of the marker nibs (usually the broad tip is easier) using tweezers or a cloth.
  3. Add Ink: Insert the nozzle of the Brillcolors alcohol ink refill bottle into the marker barrel and slowly drip ink until the cotton core is saturated. Do not overfill.
  4. Reinsert Nib: Replace the nib firmly. Allow a few minutes for the ink to fully saturate the nib before use.

5. Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter with your alcohol markers:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Marker appears dry or produces faint lines.Cap not sealed properly, ink depletion, or prolonged disuse.Ensure caps are always securely closed. If ink is low, refill the marker (refer to Section 4). If recently unused, try priming the nib by gently pressing it on scrap paper.
Ink bleeds through paper.Paper is too thin or too absorbent for alcohol ink.Use thicker paper, specialized marker paper, or place a protective barrier (e.g., cardstock) underneath your artwork.
Color on cap does not perfectly match ink color.Cap colors are for general identification; actual ink color may vary slightly depending on paper and lighting.Create a color swatch chart on your preferred paper type for accurate color reference.
Marker squeaks during use.Normal characteristic of some marker nibs, especially when new or on certain paper textures. This typically does not affect performance. Continue use; the sound may diminish over time.
