4. Installation
4.1 Choosing a Location
Install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home, including basements, and in every sleeping area. For best CO detection, install within 10 feet of sleeping areas. Avoid installing near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could interfere with detection. Keep away from cooking appliances and bathrooms.

- Drill Holes: Drill holes at the marked positions. Insert the anchor plugs into the holes.
- Attach Bracket: Secure the mounting bracket to the wall or ceiling using the provided screws.
- Install Battery: If not already installed, insert the CR123A battery into the alarm, ensuring correct polarity. The alarm will power on automatically.
- Attach Alarm: Align the alarm with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks securely into place.
Note:
- Ensure the alarm is firmly attached to prevent accidental removal.

Test your alarm weekly by pressing and holding the "TEST/x" button on the device. The alarm will sound, and the voice alert will announce "Testing." This confirms the alarm's electronics, battery, and horn are working.
6.2 Understanding Alarms and Voice Alerts
When smoke or carbon monoxide is detected, the alarm will sound, and a voice alert will announce the type of hazard and its location.
- Smoke Alarm: Loud, continuous siren. Voice alert: "Warning! Smoke detected in [Location]. Evacuate."
- Carbon Monoxide Alarm: Four quick beeps, pause, then four quick beeps. Voice alert: "Warning! Carbon monoxide detected in [Location]. Move to fresh air."

6.3 Silencing the Alarm
In case of a nuisance alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can silence the alarm by pressing the "TEST/x" button on the device or by using the silence function in the X-Sense Home Security App. The alarm will silence for a short period, then reset if the hazard has cleared. If the hazard persists, the alarm will reactivate.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning Your Alarm
Clean your alarm at least once a month to remove dust and debris. Use a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to clean the vents and openings. Do not use water, cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the unit.
7.2 Battery Replacement
The alarm uses a CR123A replaceable battery. When the battery is low, the alarm will chirp and send a low battery notification to your app. Replace the battery immediately. To replace:
- Twist the alarm counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
- Remove the old CR123A battery.
- Insert a new CR123A battery, observing polarity.
- Reattach the alarm to the mounting bracket by twisting clockwise until it locks.
- Test the alarm after battery replacement.
7.3 End-of-Life Indication
The X-Sense XP0A-iR has a 10-year service life. After 10 years, the unit will indicate its end-of-life with specific chirps or voice alerts. When this occurs, the entire unit must be replaced.
