5. Installation

Installation is designed to be simple and can be completed with a screwdriver. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Prepare the Door: If installing on a new door, mark positions and drill holes according to the provided template (not included, but standard door preparation). Ensure the door hole diameter is 2 1/8 inches and the backset is either 2 3/8 inches or 2 3/4 inches.

  3. Install Exterior and Interior Housing: Place the exterior deadbolt cylinder through the hole from the outside. Align the interior thumb turn assembly with the exterior cylinder, ensuring the bolt is horizontal. Secure with screws.
  4. Install Door Frame Strike: Close the door to mark the exact position for the strike plate on the door frame. Chisel out the area if necessary and secure the strike plate with screws.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and smooth operation of your deadbolt lock.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of graphite-based lubricant or a silicone-based spray lubricant into the keyway and on the latch bolt mechanism. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt and dust.
  • Check Screws: Occasionally check and tighten any loose mounting screws to ensure the lock remains securely fastened to the door.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your deadbolt, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Key is Stiff or Hard to Turn:
    • Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant into the keyway.
    • Ensure the key is fully inserted and is the correct key for the lock.
    • Check if the door is warped or misaligned, causing pressure on the bolt.
  • Deadbolt Does Not Extend/Retract Fully:
    • Check the strike plate alignment on the door frame. It may need to be adjusted slightly.
    • Ensure there are no obstructions in the strike plate opening.
    • Verify that the latch mechanism is properly installed and not binding.
  • Lock Feels Loose:
    • Tighten all mounting screws on both the interior and exterior assemblies.
    • Ensure the deadbolt is installed on a door of compatible thickness.
