Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffee makers.

Daily Cleaning

  1. Unplug: Always unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Discard Grounds: Remove the brewing funnel and discard the used coffee grounds and paper filter.
  3. Wash Removable Parts: Wash the carafe/airpot, brewing funnel, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. These parts are generally not dishwasher safe unless specified.
  4. Wipe Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  5. Warming Plate (1.8L model): Wipe the warming plate with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive materials.

Descaling (Monthly or as needed)

Mineral deposits from water can build up over time, affecting performance. Descale your coffee maker regularly.

  1. Prepare Solution: Mix a solution of white vinegar and water (1:2 ratio) or use a commercial descaling agent according to its instructions.
  2. Fill Reservoir: Pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir up to the maximum fill line.
  3. Run Cycle: Place the empty carafe/airpot on its base. Turn on the coffee maker and allow half of the solution to brew through.
  4. Soak: Turn off the coffee maker and let it sit for 15-30 minutes to allow the solution to work.
  5. Complete Cycle: Turn the coffee maker back on and allow the remaining solution to brew through.
  6. Rinse Cycles: Discard the descaling solution. Fill the reservoir with fresh, cold water and run at least two full brewing cycles with water only to rinse out any residual solution.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Coffee maker does not turn on. Not plugged in; power outlet issue; faulty switch. Ensure plug is securely in outlet. Check circuit breaker. Contact support if switch is faulty.
Coffee is not brewing. No water in reservoir; brewing funnel not seated correctly; machine not turned on. Fill water reservoir. Ensure funnel is properly in place. Turn on the machine.
Coffee tastes weak or too strong. Incorrect coffee-to-water ratio; coffee grind size. Adjust amount of coffee grounds. Use medium grind for drip coffee makers.
Water overflowing from filter basket. Too much coffee grounds; filter clogged; carafe/airpot not positioned correctly. Reduce coffee grounds. Ensure filter is not collapsed. Check carafe/airpot placement.
Coffee is not hot enough. (1.8L model) Warming plate off; (2.2L model) Airpot lid not sealed. (1.8L model) Ensure warming plate is on. (2.2L model) Ensure airpot lid is tightly closed.
